right yesterday i had 4 or5 blokes waiting for me after the match

calling for a curtain mans head

about the amount of distance between pegs on this particular section the chap that weighed in told me he had to walk a mile to weigh 8 pegs in

now this gets my back up as the old chestnut comes out that anglers work all week for a days fishing but lets be about right a competition means competing against other anglers not pleasure fishing this is open to all sorts of tricks let a loan start and finishing times
i know we are fishing a natural venue and the standard 30 yards is hard to police but this is taking the pi#s in my eyes
i'm trying to get anglers back on the banks only to be told that they ain't fishing again if this happens

in my eyes a competition is all about beating the bloke next door whether its with 30lb or 3lb its up to the anglers to make choices during the match and thats what team fishing is about
look at evesham if you gave them 200yds between pegs you would take 30 miles of river up
and i don't see many complaining about every peg being in and they still get 70 odd week in week out
what would you do should i just take the bull by the horns and peg every 30yds or what

Whover put eight pegs in one mile should be made to peg the whole match.
As, per results, you had 80 fishing, the TEN MILES walk should make him think a bit

Right after thinking about this here are my thoughts for what they are worth ?
I agree with Joff regarding the distance, however a mile is a bit of a exageration me thinks.
If those competitors in that section had bagged up on every peg would they have moaned ?
I believe Tony pegged this stretch out to give the best possible fishing, but I will agree that his way is not every body,s cup of tea.
Tis better to have a long peg instead of a short one do you not think.
Any body who fished the Derwent matches years ago will know this was similar in order to give everbody the chance to have a cracking day.
Nobody really moaned then when they had caught 50lb of chub etc.
Now to the pegging out and making safe pegs. Tony has been one of the front runners in doing this and probably is due some respect for this alone.
The majority of people who moan about pegging out, rules, draw times, venues etc., give very little back to the sport other than turn up to fish.
If these people are unhappy about how things are run maybe they could lend a hand instead of moaning or p##s off and go fish somewhere else.
I do feel for Joff having stick from some of these type of people and I for one respect the work and good job he does.
I also think some of this stick was misguided to Tony and if some of these people thought before opening their mouths then this would not happen.
This is a River Soar winter league with river being the operative word.
The end.

choppy i understand some of what you are saying but when i have asked on two occasions where these pegs are going to be as i have to do a random draw and make it as fare as i can i need this info its me on the front line not tony and i like things to be right and thats right down to the pegging
yes he has put pegs in that he thinks are the best pegs for catching fish and yes we all want that but in the real world thats not possible natural venues are hard to peg due to trees bushes weed beds and so on
but angling has changed from the old days 300 peggers are no more and you wouldn't be able to peg it any other way than every peg now you mentioned the derwent well at the same time john dean was at the top of the sport at burton joyce fishing matches every 20to25 yards now in my eye's thats a true fishing competition and it was down to your own watercraft to get the best out of your peg the same thing is happening to commercials club matches fish every peg no one moans and there is always a winner yet open match anglers insist on having a spare peg because you catch more if this was never allowed in the first place no one would be any the wiser now it written in stone and the owners are sick of it
a few years ago tony start running matches on the canal again putting pegs where you catch fish what happened to the match circuit then for ten pegs you had to walk miles what you are forgetting choppy the bloke does not think of others only of his own Gaines and the sooner you realise this the better
when i peg out i always look at the bigger picture and try to get 10 fare pegs to a section and then possibly think of paying every 5 peg the average angler is what you need to make match fishing work and the more ways they can win a little money the better most of our matches are 60 plus now and i'm not about to loose these figures through one person

i will be pegging the said section and it will be as fare as i can get it mate
the winter league is still the highlight of the year whether you agree or not and the main objective is to win the angling competition not a rover
i for one can't draw for toffee like you choppy but i will try my hardest for the team and sometimes i would like to see the anglers iether side so i can make decissions along the way [didn't help this week

Fair comment Joff

However these days i like to think i can get on with everybody and that includes Tony.
I do not follow the sheep i make my own mind up about people and Tony is ok with me.

I have been running matches for over 40 years now. The ones than do their best to crappity smack them up are in the minority, probably 3%.
This is where the problem arises, they are 'serial offenders' and will have a go or do anything, more so if they do no good.
I whinge like crappity smack when one of them books in any of my matches; it gets that bad at times I don't even want to fish my own matches at times and I don't now fish them all.
From experience it is ALWAYS the 'must win' merchants, they will blame any crappity smack for their own inabilities, except themselves of course.

i'd like to put this behind us now but i would just like to say one more thing
waterside fished well most anglers could see each other
the greens fished well pegging was closer
kegworth where you had drawn 20 yard pegs fished its head off
it was mostly the natural sections where the pegs were spread out that you got famine and feast with the fish
everybody said why didn't you put sutton in last week most had 4 to 6lb down there

and as you can see from last week i've tried to even the sections out that way as well

like you said its the river soar winter league and that includes sutton the deeps as well as the natural sections
