Punching it on the cut...........

A comment today from a fellow club mate has got me scratching my head a bit Image

It all centres on punch fishing on the cut

Spose I’m old school and always took it as gospel and believed in the adage that on the cuts (well at least round this neck of the woods) that once you ‘corrupt’ a punch swim/line by introducing other baits - squatt/pinkie or mag (but not hemp or caster) when the punch line died, that was it as far as the punch went for the rest of the match.

Now over all the years, once I’ve tried to kick start a ‘dead’ punch line with other baits, I’ve never later tried to resurrect it later on with more punch, or ever put punch on back on the hook.(Although I will have a gander with an alternative hookbait on a dying line, before deciding to introduce any samples of that hook bait.)

Having said that I have in the past on occasions tried to establish a new punch line elsewhere in the swim

The suggestion today was that you could ‘restart’ tha punch line later in the match despite feeding other things .

Calling all you cut cracks

What’s your thoughts on the subject?

Have any forumites tried or succeeded in re-establishing a punch after other baits have been introduced?

Even taking this one further, has anybody started a punch line from scratch over ‘another bait line’ half way through a match?

Have I been missing a trick or two over the last half century? :-/ :-/ :-/

Ta in anticipation of your views and thoughts Image

It all depends on the varying cuts we all all fish.
Trends tends to vary a lot but at the minute (inc Div One) you can swap and change baits, ie punch, squatt and hemp in the same hole; you do need to feed for the punch though and keep feeding.
It probably depends how many rach yiou have in front of you at thye start. On my doorstep (Staffs-Worcs) you can go on the punch anytime, even the last half hour of the match if you want to.
Times have changed a lot with more roach in the cuts Image Image

TK iv'e talked to bill on this subject times i've been using bread on the river and having good results pleasure fishing but i don't know why they go off it whether i'm not feeding a enough or they back off down stream yet even chasing them with a stick float down the peg is not the same
but i've never gone back to bread after its always hemp or caster Image

Fill your main peg in with licky (a full medium pot) it should last nearly all match, if skimmers or odd bream are known to be in the area give em 2 pots ;) Image Image flicking casters in over the top does no harm and a switch to a caster hookbait later on can produce a bonus or two Image if your fishing a chopworm line aswell always keep it well away from the bread peg big perch etc will spook the silvers.

TK i've fished bread later in a match after the initial line has died :)
and its been known that the only way i could get a bite was to fish the bread over all previously baited up swims regardless of the bait used there Image

Most people seem to fill the swim with Licky at the start and its that which kills the swim in my oppinion.I'll always come back over a dead Punch swim later in a match, even if ive fed a different bait over it.
