Thats not what the blokes in my Legion Club think TK, epec as I came last in our match at Elmbridge earlier in year ! BUT I learned a lot, like how NOT to do it ! On these commercials.
I really really enjoyed today and thanks very much Yale for having me as a guest.
I'm doing a good imitation of a beetroot at the moment. That sun is deceptively strong and the last thing i've been thinking of lately is sun cream, wind was up too.
I've fished a waggler, many many times conna, I meant I hadnt fished it with pellet for carp. At that Elmbridge match I mentioned, (and by the way is the pegging close there or what ) I looked around at everyone fishing the same pole lenghts and thought id better do something different , so tried a waggler further out but only had maggots and the small rudd were getting to them first and I only managed one carp that way.
But today I had hard pellets. Credit to Nick Gilbert and the article on his website about pellet waggler for carp that gave me the inspiration and basic info to fish it.
My mind was sort of made up for me as well by the fact that i've lost my no6 section, so 5 was the furthest I could go on the pole. I dont fish nicks way entirely. Today I had heavier tackle. 6lb reel line and .15 hooklength, an ordinary waggler float and a match rod bent into a horsehoe, could do with something beefier.
But Nick is definitely responsible for giving me the gist of it AND for the SACK of 6mm skrettings pellets in my garage. Was wondering when I was ever going to use 'em. I got thru a whole 2 pints today, just a few to go then. Think 6mm are a bit big as feed myself but ive got 'em now.
I really only found the fish in the last hour, say 'found the fish', I only had 6 for 36 1/2 lb. But 3 of those came in the last hour and I lost one too. They were deeper in the water.
I stayed on and had more fish in a couple of hours than i did in the match, they were going barmy, bite a cast. Most of the time was spent playing them , and losing quite a few as well. Didnt take long to hook another and start the battle again. Do they sense when a match is over ? Was it something to do with having the pool virtually to myself then ? I dont know.
The interesting thing was it was just like fishing for roach or skimmers on the waggler, only with MUCH bigger fish, giving you the right run around.
