The Jinx matches I have fished are similar to that. No 1st, 2nd and 3rd payout. He pays 5 sections(1st and 2nd in each section) and a small amount for overall 1st.
I like the idea because even if you see someone else baggin up on the other size of the pool you still feel inspired to keep fishing because you could come 1st or 2nd in your section.
But in changing the payouts like that you would also have to change the way the points are dished out in the club averages too.

Deffo something to think about though  :)

One problem i do see is that on most club matches you have some anglers that are only there for the day out, they are not that bothered if they catch/win and thus do not really take it seriously, they are the ones that usually turn up with half a pint of maggots, throw out a feeder, the tip does not move so they either go for a walk or go to sleep.

On the other hand you have anglers that are a bit more serious about there fishing,they turn up to win the match, armed with £20 worth of bait.

I just think its a bit unfair that a bloke that walks could win the same as the bloke that wins the match.

Interesting point CM.............and yes you are right in every club there are those who just go for the day out.

On an amusing point, you'd have to religiously enforce the NFA rule applicable to not leaving the peg, but there again I know of a couple of our members who genuinely havent left their pegs, but have had a couple of hours kip next to their boxes (One even missed the off and woke with about 15 mins to go )

Also have to enforce 'team' bait requirements somehow

Think I was predominantly focussing on this from the exchange of info observation mentioned by Robbosoul...........which I believe is one of the driving and primary factors (excluding mercenaries) of why people join clubs - the banter/friendship but also as a valuable source and knowledge base to learn from.

I intend to rehash the payouts on the gruellers this season - most likely having 3 section winners instead of a straight 1 2 & 3

At Cashmores we have also deliberately kept the pools/payouts low in the past to minimise any potential influx of 'mercenaries' when we've had vacancies.

Club fishing is not about money as far as I can tell. If people want big money payouts then they should fish on the opens.
The money is nice if you win but the feeling that you have won is much better, maybe thats because I ain't won that many times but thats my feeling anyway..

What's it like to win.............been that long I've forgotten

We had a problem with pools in my club a couple of years ago. Of around 18 guys fishing each week less than half would go into the optional £5 pools even though I tried to keep the payouts low and spread the money around. It was mainly the same 3 or 4 that were winning each week.

I then switched to a £2 compulsory pools paying sections of 4 or 5. Often the best anglers draw in the same section and some of the lesser anglers do pick up. The look of pride on their faces when they win £10, often for the first time ever, is worth seeing. It doesnt solve the problem completely as I still have one or two moaning that they havent got a chance. Realistically the pools must be compulsory as it can get difficult working out the sections and who is eligable to win if they are optional.
