natural rivers are just being left to over grow once pegs now a bramble bush why???
LOUGHBOROUGH and QUORN are the biggest two clubs on the river soar LEICESTER MAL another all have a big section of natural river yet most of the pegs are over grown, weeded up is it because the clubs members have all turned to commercials have the numbers of members decreased is it the fact that there are no club matches on these water which has a knock on affect when it come to opens yesterday i went to a section that we used to get 28 pegs after walking about a mile i could of put 10 or 12 pegs in who wants to fish matches where you can't see another angler for miles plus on arrival at your peg another half hour beating the stingers down bushes are now giant size tree's are all over hanging the river so you can't get into your peg whats the answer .anglers tell me that they have bagged up on the river but they are returning to the same peg try putting a match around one peg Imageas most of the natural river is non navigable the authorities don't want to know yet are the first to tell us that due to health and safety we must not clear pegs out chop tree's or anything like it
hopefully in 4 weeks time the river will have lost some of the weed but if this global warming and seasons get pushed back we might see this weed until Christmas Image
its no good relying on one or two to clear pegs we need all the members of the winter league to give a Saturday or Sunday up to help clear the pegs
also because we haven't fished the river for so long boats seam to moor up anywhere long the river walkers and bikers seam put out because they haven't had to stop for a angler shipping back there poles where you used to park now house holders moan about it saying you can't park there
who are the people you need to talk to about these issues

WE NEED A NATIONAL RIVER FISHING DAY

With no pellets Image

If they abolished the antiquated close season I am sure this 'weeding up' would not be as bad. Image

Joff you are right mate in what you say, unfortunately it ain't how it used to be.
Most, if not all clubs owned / rented rivers, lakes, etc, twenty-five years ago. Now it is very different, instead of a very few clubs and large memberships its gone to many small clubs with up to thirty anglers.
Alot of water has been relinquished and these small clubs can really only afford to book pegs on their chosen venues. This is not a bad thing with the variety of fishing offered by the many commercials in all areas.
So my friend if the people in the club do not use it they will lose it, as no club will pay high rent on a mile of river that has two pegs safe to fish.
Maybe some of these clubs, say for example Loughborough should allow some club / Match Group to take over the lease of some stretches if they were approached.
Its food for thought, but here is an example. Evesham love it or hate it has many anglers on it, the revenue is good, money is spent on it, free parking behind every peg, good platforms etc, etc.
The future of river competition fishing must lie with the anglers to take ownership of venues, clear pegs, offer access etc, but who would do this my friend.
These people are thin on the ground and the rest of us will probably moan until river fishing on the Soar has disappeared.
