After our first slightly disappointing first match out the second is on a new venue to the club. Pea Lane is actually a mature gravel pit built to take the drainage from when the M25 was being built. At 70 odd pegs it’s the largest lake we fish by far.

We have pegs 1 to 21which is all the car park bank, which has 3 access points to the lake at around pegs 7, 13 and 21 so the maximum walk is 50 yards or so to peg 1. There will be a burger van open in the morning for a bite to eat. ( See how well I look after you lot  Image)

The depths vary considerably being much deeper at the higher numbers. For example peg 4 at 4 sections is 6ft down to over 10 at 11metres.  Pegs 20 and 21 Im told could be over 12 ft at 9metres ( Ive fished 27 along the next bank and its was deeper than that ) though depths do go down to 20ft plus. Image

Fish stocks are very varied and there are many ways to fish it any of which could be right on the day.

Most common are Ide from 4oz to 1lb with plenty of roach from bits to over 1lb. Skimmers can be plentyful again ranging from razor blades to proper bream of 6lb. Barbel show up reasonably often to 4lb plus along with F1s and proper carp mainly 4 to 12lb but much bigger fish are there along with some massive catfish.

Baits I would suggest

Maggot
Pellet
Meat
Corn
Hemp
Colin will say paste but then he always does even when it doesn’t work.

I was told by one guy to use groundbait for the bream but then again the baliff said that groundbait can be the Kiss of Death.  Image

Well there we, are a totally different water from those we are used to but Im sure everyone will have an enjoyable days fishing. Don’t worry about the noise from the M25 as the lake is set lower down, most of the noise goes over your head on the car park bank and you just get an acceptable hummmmm.

Your a pessimist Bill. Image

The weights will be very similar to the last match at Monk with 70lb needed to win especially with the right anglers in the favoured pegs and provided the wind isnt too strong or in the wrong direction.

The usual suspects Mugger, Colin, Tony, Al, and myself will be there or thereabouts. Especially Al as he used to belong to the club and knows the place well.

Although one of the others could chuck a feeder onto a shoal of big bream and show us the way home.

honestly any peg could win it with the method into open water

favoured pegs would be 1,4,5,6,7&8
depending on your style of fishing
i aint fished it for a couple of years and never in a match
in the right peg a ton could be 10-12 fish
have seen all barbel nets win matches
if there allowing them in nets

Spoke to the baliff today and there are a couple of rules I wasnt aware of.

No floating baits.
Nets to be dipped.
No barbel in nets
No big bream in nets ( over 4lb )

I will try to arrange a few sets of scales to be spread around for the barbel and bream. if anyone has a set then please bring them.

Come on Dave - be honest you did a little more than just speak to the bailiff yesterday! Explain how you were down there fishing with Colin all day, getting in a little pre match practice.

Colin freely admits he was practising Image. Me, well I went down with him to finalise details for the weekend and work out the pegging. I only took my gear to keep Colin company and to avoid wasting my day on your behalf. Image Image

So there you have it no practice for me just working on the clubs behalf. Image

Didnt fish that well I managed about 20lb of skimmers and ide, they wouldnt stay in one spot for long... Catch a couple and then nothing. Image. Similar result for Colin though he did get one small carp early and then one very late.

Colins son David thrashed both of us by catching carp to 11lb from one of the carp flyers. Image Image. The carp were showing in the margins but not feeding as they looked like they are about to put there minds to spawning.

Dont want 21  Image Image

Pegs 4,7,5,6 for me in that order.  Image

Plus to avoid the same accusations that came at Monk when I drew a flyer, I will again be taking one of the last 2 pegs in the hat and will not be wearing my wrist support. As if I would stoop so low as to hide the flyer peg number inside it and drop it into my hand inside the bag. Image Image Image

I dont need the flyer to catch( though I must admit it does help). Image
