Pea Lane 25th April
Posted: April 8th, 2009, 8:57 pm
After our first slightly disappointing first match out the second is on a new venue to the club. Pea Lane is actually a mature gravel pit built to take the drainage from when the M25 was being built. At 70 odd pegs it’s the largest lake we fish by far.
We have pegs 1 to 21which is all the car park bank, which has 3 access points to the lake at around pegs 7, 13 and 21 so the maximum walk is 50 yards or so to peg 1. There will be a burger van open in the morning for a bite to eat. ( See how well I look after you lot )
The depths vary considerably being much deeper at the higher numbers. For example peg 4 at 4 sections is 6ft down to over 10 at 11metres. Pegs 20 and 21 Im told could be over 12 ft at 9metres ( Ive fished 27 along the next bank and its was deeper than that ) though depths do go down to 20ft plus.
Fish stocks are very varied and there are many ways to fish it any of which could be right on the day.
Most common are Ide from 4oz to 1lb with plenty of roach from bits to over 1lb. Skimmers can be plentyful again ranging from razor blades to proper bream of 6lb. Barbel show up reasonably often to 4lb plus along with F1s and proper carp mainly 4 to 12lb but much bigger fish are there along with some massive catfish.
Baits I would suggest
Maggot
Pellet
Meat
Corn
Hemp
Colin will say paste but then he always does even when it doesn’t work.
I was told by one guy to use groundbait for the bream but then again the baliff said that groundbait can be the Kiss of Death.
Well there we, are a totally different water from those we are used to but Im sure everyone will have an enjoyable days fishing. Don’t worry about the noise from the M25 as the lake is set lower down, most of the noise goes over your head on the car park bank and you just get an acceptable hummmmm.
