This guy?

The headlines w/e May 2 1992 in the Anglers Mail match reports read in large bold type

14lb clear on canal

Division One National Champion Pete Hargreaves has been in unstoppable form since last June and walked the Mohmar Open on the Shropshire Union Canal at Henhull with a staggering 21-10-0

The new Shakespeare Superteam signing from Cannock had more than 60 roack-bream hybrids on pole fished caster at 11 metres fishing over groundbait.

Mike Crow (Red Lion MG) was next to the winner and had 7-1-0 of hybrids and roach for second.

Barry Pugh (St Johns) had an all roach 4-1-0 on pole and caster for third

Others
Dave Ellis (Irby) 3-10-0
Paul Turnbull (Mohmar) 2-15-4

I’m sure Pete H used to fish with Cartheys before moving onto Shakespeare. In the AMs that I’ ve got from this era, hardly a week goes by without him featuring, oten twice in the same mag, winning this match, framing in that…….

What ever happened to him – did he knock angling on the head Image

If so, anybody know why Image

Yer, Pete Hargreaves.
I was his 'ghost writer' on many a feature. He won the Div One National Champs on the T&M Canal. He was at Alrewas, (fished for them as well) and had a couple of carp (if my memory was right). He signed for Shakespeare after that but packed it in after a short spell.
I honestly think he believed had achieved all he wanted to.
Good bloke Pete, real class act. One of the first in this area to fish joker as a hook bait.
He would certainly figure in my Midlands all-time greatest canal team.

Not seen Pete for a while; he got down to around the 9 stone mark.
He used to go in Carthy's Tackle every Friday, they had a seat for him.

In his prime he crushed many a seat box.

Really was one of THE top cut anglers, he never had to work at it he was natural. Unfortunately there ain't so many of them about today.

His brother was a useful club angler; he passed away not too long back.
