last week i was out with my two boarder collies down by the river [as usual] this time i went up stream of rothley where i live a part we used to match fish a lot good nets of roach often came out up there about 100yards into the walk the river splits and meets the river wreake and is quiet narrow there.one of the dogs loves swimming and is in and out all the time ,as we walked i noticed he was having trouble getting out in one spot.so i gave him a helping hand and at this point a noticed his leg had tangled around some thick line like the plastic strimmer cord,as i untangled him i started pulling it to see what it was and to my disbelieve it was a proper poachers net right across the river at this point i will post a photo of it on the site later its just unbelievable how crawl this net is it must have 30 3oz lead balls on it and a gudgeon mesh net of which i tore as i pulled it from the far bank.
no fish would of got through this net and would of tangled in the net the net would of looked better on the back of a trawler which brings me to another point we are getting more and more boats using our rivers and canals night and day whats to say they are not trawling off the back of there boats at night half the people living on the boats are foreigners
who do i take this net to and do you think anything will come of it

I'd give the EA a shout as a first port of call Joffie - see what their reaction is.

Also alert all the anglers you interface with to keep an eye out for anything suspicious along the waters in the area Image

How about the Angling Trust ? Not sure if they're up and running enough yet to deal with it, but id give them a ring as well.

swampy that is quiet possible mate it sounds funny but i could be true
after the semi final we had the water tested as we had come across this growth on the bottom and every time a boat went through it would come to the top and for the next 20 minutes you kept catching it on your line [if you remember mate]
the water quality is fine but this weed and algae has to be sorted it means raking the bottom throughout the canal and breaking it up thats why the canal fished so hard along with the weather
