Loving the Punch fishing article in Match Fishing, thanks
Its really good how you have got 7 different blokes ways of fishing the same method. It gives you a good comparison of the different ways to do it.
Superb Read, cheers

I have had more luck feeding a large pot at the start rather than a small amount.
But then I mess it up by feeding too much too soon before the bites dry up

I'm already handicapped fishing against all you worm and joker bandits
Bandits.......what bandits
You could call me one of them if I knew what I was doing with it
Keep them top tips coming Dodge.........I'm listening, I'm listening
I'm punching it in the morn too and hope I don't have to resort to putting a little red man on the hook - if I manage that I know I'll be on for double figures down there again

Most of our lads use the Fox punches as they make quite a compact bread pellet but the Drennan ones are really good and some still use them.
I don't know whether it will work on your cut but plenty of punch roach are coming off the inside on the Shroppie and they can be proper roach to as much as 12 oz.
I haven't a crappity smack clue as to why but quite often the first bread punch roach you catch will be your biggest. Recent inside catches of punch roach at Norbury have been up to 6 lbs with only around 30 fish needed, that is IF you can catch on the inside!

Its good to see a few anglers still using the cheap as chips plastic drennan bread punches

they are great and i have always used them

PLASTIC

don`t swear my punches are gold tipped

we don`t use plastic down south

Only kidding the Drennan punches that i use are the brass tipped type just like the Fox ones.

Glad the article's been well received!
I once fed 1.5 loaves ::) and topped up loads of times when i won an FMS round at Stoke. Had a massive bag of bread with me to try at Cov recently. Never had a bite on it yet caught on bloodworm 5m away, both swims at the base of the far shelf!
I love fishing bread on the 4/5m line, too, and spent years catching this way on my local GUC. I'd like to think it was my tactics that helped my old Faps AFS team pip Starlets to the Milton Keynes semi from the old West Mids AT division, too. Doesnt seem to work on as many cuts these days - with the K&A being the biggest exception. Oh, and I never had any roach on a short-pole line when i won the first round on the Birm Mainline... honest!

Ta Bill and EP
I've already tipped Simps off about the one common denominator in your observations

I've been working away at a 'diiferent' punch groundbait for the past couple of months. I don't think it's too far off the mark and there is no waste with it whatsover. I have also been messing around with bread paste on the hook, that has been very successful but I haven't been arsed in the last couple of weeks (an age thing). I can make this paste mix in under 10 minutes and I know that it works well. I am not quite as confident however with the paste, often using it after I've had a few bites on the punch. I will let you know about this gb mix and the paste mix in a few weeks time, after I have finished tatting around with it; that is if anyone wants to know.
I am persevering with the punch groundbait because it has not let me down at all but I suspect it will work better on a clear cut like the Extension or Curly.
I shall try this paste again soon but I am quite happy with that.
When you fish against the likes of Fred Cheetham every week you realise just how good and very special he is on the bread. You just hace to reassess your own thinking, it is no good trying to copy someone because you will always be behind them. He has all sorts of tricks up his sleeve and gets some alarming weights on it; the number of double figure weights he has had entirely on punch just has to be admired.
As to how much to feed I honestly think it all depends on the venue and how many roach are in it. The more roach the more feed, the Erewash and in partcular the Beeston Canal will take an amazing amount of feed; the Staffs -Worcs at Stafford will too but the roach tend to be smaller there. The Shroppie will take far more than we all probably think too. I think you are right to feed a fair bit at the start. Due to the massive cloud reaction (and that is what you are looking for) you certainly can not feed many areas. We never, ever feed right across as a metre or so short covers that anyway.
We all fished the punch in Div One three years back on the Erewash to finish third, (I still got beat by CV at the next peg, dunno what happened there I had the scales!) and used it to a lesser extent (we found huge white squatts best) at Dodges beloved Wigan to finish third in this years Div 2. In between we were relegated from the New Junction, too crappity smack deep for the punch!

In the right hands the punch will score massively in this years Div One, I am sure of that.

Watch out for the rare condition
breadheaditus. At Shakespeare we treated Rob Middleton with the antidote just in time but I'm afraid there's no cure for any Eclipse AC anglers:
