What a nice day for our first match. Weather was warm, sunny and calm. No wind. Hooooray  Image
After the hello's and pi$$ taking the draw got underway and I drew peg 19. Got to my peg and it looked nice about 13 meters wide.
Started down the track on the caster and had a bite right away and missed it  :-[ Put it straight back and had another bite, was a 8 oz roach and I thought I was in for a good match. Shame because after that I struggled to get a bite down the track. Had another few smaller roach and decided to try the far side.
First put in on the caster I had a nice 10 oz Perch and then nothing  Image This was all in the first 2 hours.
I went back down the track on the punch and had some more roach but news had spread that no one was catching. The canal had switched off  :-?
For the last 3 hours I had about 4 blade roach, so I just enjoyed the sunshine instead.

Sunshine also brings out bikers, walkers and clowns on motorbike along the canal towpath unfortunately. It was very busy and poor Roley Conway had some tit ride over the end of his pole and break it  >:(
Kevin Buxton got so bored he decided to do some acrobatics on his box, not sure how but he managed to fall of his box and snap his number 4 section, He still got the fish on that he was playing at the time.
Was good to get out on the bank again. Looking forward to the next match on Coven Canal.

Match results and pictures can be found HERE
Will add some more pictures later when Conna sends me his.

Well what can I say about my peg????? I drew peg 9 on the nursing home side which everyone despises, it was double banked which makes it worse and I couldn't fish a lot of the time due to surface weed that kept flowing in. I started on the punch at 5m and fed caster at 13m to my left and pellet and corn at 13m to my right expecting the Tench and bream to show. 1st put in on the punch I had a 12oz skimmer and thought I was in for a good day too but it was short lived as all I had after on the punch line was 1/2 oz Roach, the caster line was not productive only taking 2 Roach approx 2oz apiece. I spent the rest of the match on Red maggott as that's all I could get a bite on with small Roach. I weighed in 1-05-summat to finish a dismal 10th place. As I always say, there's always next week. I also had a stonking headache all match which hindered me all day.

Roll on Coven on 6th May.

it you want to catch some canal tench come on the Sportsman sunday , they are run by Ernie Thomasopen (only £7) on the B'ham mainline, the last two matches have been won with over 20lb of tench and skimmers on pellet.

Presume you'll park in Ball Lane Si - looking at your map.
The section 'north' of Ball Lane used to be run by Telford Anglers.
The section 'south' runs at the back of a Water Treatment station - cock pegs used to be right behind the station where it pumps in, hits the far bank and then runs pretty pacey right to left.......you need a 7bb stick float on those few cock pegs :D
