Grueller match 1 - v's Teepots crew
Posted: October 19th, 2008, 6:47 pm
Well the day had finally arrived for this tension filled, nail biting day.
Larry had finally managed to scrape a TA team of 10 together with late confirmation that Dan Workman and Griffo would fly the flag for him
The Bum Draw Master arrived at the cut a little later than usual because Heinzer had popped to the butchers before picking him up to get a pork chop or two for his tea.
Arriving at the cut, around 8.20am the BDM was a little surprised to see how few cars were there. Had Larry and his crew already surrendered and took heed of Yamos taunts during the week.
No…………………
The notorious Harry the Hitman was first to pop out of the bushes ..............he was up for a scrap today…………..the information he’d gleamed from his spying missions over the last week or two wasn’t going to waste.
Also in attendance, albeit somewhere down the towpath, were Ian H and Firstpeg who’d made the long haul all the way from Bath.
KOD, Heinzer and BDM went off to peg. BDM spotted Haha’s van going in the wrong direction past the cut………..a quick call on the dog and bone and a bacon sarnie was ordered.
Now the best laid plans……………….rarely come to fruition, and today was no exception. The intention was to peg the complete section of the boats as this was prolific the week before and there were signs of large shoals of roach basking down by the boatyard itself. However a couple of bodies were visible in the distance.
‘Sod’s law’…………hardly ever see anyone down that section and two anglers are smack in the middle. Rather than peg around them, pegs 1 – 15 are put in up to the bridge rather than the expected 25/28 on there. Pegs 16 to 28 are in the middle section which is still carrying a tinge of colour.
‘You want 1-15 and 23-28, preferably high or low’ though BDM, who deffo didn’t want 16-22.
Back up the bank and Teepot and rest of crew have turned up after all
A staggered draw was made, with ‘El capitan’ Teepot draw the Harrisons names out, Heinzer reciprocating with the TA team names.
The low cock pegs soon go……………
Aint it funny how the draw conspires and throws up a quirk or two?
Larry drew along side Brummie and long time buddy who he’d fished with years ago, Gerry who was now a staunch Harrisons man. What a head to head battle was in store…….
Worse still, Larry also had the added distraction of having the Shark to his left………… this was now scrambling his brains…………what should he do? Have a silvers battle with Gerry? But he couldn’t ignore the team instructions given to The Shark to go all out for beasties………..what a dilemma for poor old Larry.
Silverfish had practised the cut on Thursday and caught aok from the gap in the new fence. The BDM had given him loads of info………..and had joked that he didn’t want to draw next to him Well Silverfish ends up on 18, and guess who was on 19?
Someone who cant get away from the peg…………..having drawn it the last 4 matches. Now Larry dips in the bag and it’s 5 on the trot for the BDM……………’thanks a lot Larry’.
For the BDM it was a bit of a grueller………….Silverfish was netting fish and heaping on the pressure of the next peg whilst Hotlips popped down to report that Jonah had had 5 fish in his first 5 put in. BDMs favoured punch failed to pull in the silvers so it was a head down jobbie after a biteless first 30 mins, resorting to picking up bits from a rotated 5 lines.
Anyway, enough of the waffle……….a few snippets of interest as reported back
The cut daint fish anywhere as good as the previous weekend……………now that’s a surprise.
Having said that, Heinzer got seen off first put in on the punch, Budgie got seen off and also bost a no5 section
Simple Simon needs to go on a ‘Get the skimmer in the net’ course
Millie was seen off twice on the caster whilst Silverfish owned up to losing a decent fish or two.
Poor old Dan got leafed out.
The Shark followed instructions and got 1 tinca out whilst another snagged him.
Larry went walkabouts………….
Gerry had about 250 silver slivers whilst Gez and Firstpeg picked up a few better samples.
Harry tried to catch a boat

before deciding to chuck the waggler up the bank whilst Zorro flashed his foil and put together the best net of the day.
And the moment you’ve all been waiting for………..the results
