I watched you catch a tiny roach every run through on the team match at Evesham to finish halfway in your section with 7lb odd.

After the way it fished on Saturday and Sunday i'm pretty sure if anyone had offered you that weight before the match you'd have ripped their arm off.

With hindsight would you have changed any thing in what you did?

lee what more could chris do he was catching one a bung everytime we stood behind him sometimes your on that size of fish and if so you have just got to get your head down the bigger roach seam to be in rob perkins peg and steve hemingreys why i cant answer that steves peg was slightly deeper and rob did use maggot on the hook my be chris can say Image

Lee i fished the match pretty much the same as every year same mix etc and this year was my worst result for the team and i`m gutted to tell you the truth. The last four years i have been in the top 3 in the section.
As you said i caught a fish a put well almost and i did not use my landing net once.
So you can imagine i have been on the phone to Swinnoe trying to workout what i had done wrong and the conclusion was nothing.
My peg on the saturday had Simon Wilsmore on it and he fished for roach and on the sunday jenko fished it and fished for roach, may be the reason was that it had been hammered.
Also another theory of mine is that it depends on the size of the fish in the shoal in front of you,two years ago i caught about 20 roach for 10lb.
Roll on next year, one of the best team events in the calender. Image Image Image

Chris, any idea what came off Gary's peg in the previous two matches?

Or Darren Frosts peg, I know Darren and he is a class angler but he really struggled to catch roach even though the anglers around him caught.

You wasnt the only one on small fish in that section Chris! Rob and Ricky both had a bigger stamp either side of me. I reckoned mine went 20 to the 1lb and smaller and i know i caught at least 30+ more than Rob yet he had 1lb more than me! I netted about 15 and couldve swung them all but had one fish fall off so better safe than sorry with any that are flapping around. It petered off for everyone in the last 90 minutes and they stopped sitting over the top up balls which made my peg difficult for running it at them further down the peg. I reckon i had a caravan roof or something 5m down the swim as i lost 5 hooklengths on it! Ive had a chat with Rob and weve done very little different and both used 1g and 1.5g floats etc. Its just like a canal; you get different shoals in front of you and have to make the most of whats there. Smaller fish allow you to catch faster but better ones make the weight up quicker. Im happy with the 8-14-0 i caught but 10lb wouldve been on the cards for everyone if the wind was kinder.

Tommy Pickering drew Garys peg the day before and didn`t catch a roach(not sure he fished for them).Dean Barlow and Steve Hemmingrey were below Tommy and they caught some quality roach and after the draw i told Gary this.
Jon well done at the weekend mate is Dave still growling about you being a canal and carp man. Image Image

Bloodworm is expensive when you have to supply the bloke two pegs downstream Image Image Image Image Image

I personally didnt try maggot or caster. Cant see any point chancing a run through with no bites when youre guaranteed to come back with a fish with one or two bloodworm on. I just got my head down and tried to come back with a fish each cast for team points. If it was an individual match i wouldve tried more things to pick out better fish.

Theres apparently always a few quality roach where Gary was. DH framed off the next peg last year on silvers without B&J and was even foul hooking them!
