Very poor fishing like we suspected.
It rained all last night and there was a match on Friday and Saturday which did not help things I don't think.

The Winner had all carp....
I caught ALL Silvers  Image none of them pesky carp  Image
Shallow at 5, 8, and 10 meters on caster  Image

I told TK who popped in to see how we were going  I had 20lb in my net  Image Image

Got some pictures to add later. I need a beer  Image Image

What happened to TB ???  ....

Drew well I think opposite an island. Started with a cage feeder and dampened pellet inside, up against the island. After half an hour i'd just had a couple of indications with no takes on a banded 8mm hard pellet while next door...

Mr Craggs had started straight out in front at 4m and had had 3 fish at just past the half hour I think. So, decided to try and join him quick. Went out at about 5m on pellet, feeding micros in a kinder cup. Approx 6 ft deep. Couple of line bites and after a while a skimmer about a pound and a quarter, while Mr Craggs had had another carp or maybe two. Then he must have had another, not sure, but I was getting battered  :o

It continued much like that throughout the match, me trying to work out how he was catching them and I wasnt. Tried this that and everything else. Played a carp for quite a while and lost it on the 5m line and had one about 12oz.

All I could get was liners, tried coming up shallower and back down again, lost count how many times I plumbed it and checked it again and again adjusting up and down trying to find where theyd take it. Tried switching baits and down the edge, but nothing.

With half an hour to go id had enough and decided to pack up. I'd tried the feeder to the island periodocally throughout the match but it hadnt produced. A little voice in my head kept saying, you know what, you'd probably do ok just sticking to the feeder tight to the island for the whole match, they'd have to come on sometime over there, but I wasnt listening and kept trying to catch on the 4/5m line like next door. A real puzzle for me.

While packing up I swopped to the maggot feeder and chucked it against the isalnd again. After a while bingo ! In the last half hour I lost two fish at the net because of carlessly bullying them and one while playing it and landed another about a pound and a half. Lesson learned, theyd take the maggot when fed in a feeder. I'd ignored it untill then, except for trying it on the hook while fishing the cage feeder/pellet, because I thought id be plagued by small fish and thought they wouldnt be any good to me from what I could see being caught in the next peg. I also assumed, wrongly as it turned out, there would be a fair few carp caught elsewhere.

Think I may have worked out what David Craggs was doing differently to me by now and have learned something, but there again I might not !   :D  Well done David.

Sometimes I think, if I had any sense i'd pack up this fishing lark, and then i think maybe i'll have another go ! Never learn.
