Having run matches for donkeys of years I have put up with that many excuses it is untrue Image Image
However, this one is very true and it happened years ago on a match I run. Wolvehampton's Stan Ward drew this peg on the Staff-Worcs Canal at Stafford. He was catching a few fish (honestly) and this boat came along. Everyone thought the boat had got stuck in Stan's peg and it did in more ways than one. It actually sank and the crew had to get out quick!
While this one was very true what is the best excuse for failure you have ever come across; I have come across more in my time than our PMs come out with. Image Image Image Image Image

A bike shortened my top two I was using by some six inches yesterday. You should have seen the rig, it was condensed, gloat and all into about a 1 inch square Image Image Image

That should read FLOAT, not gloat; that is what the biker were doing.

the best i can think of was my old man. he was fishing a winter league match on the canal at rode heath (100 pegger). the weather was terrible , pouring with rain and gusting winds. he drew in a narrow with a bit of shelter on the far bank (enough to hold a pole at 10m every now and again) he was catching a few nice roach on castor (and doing well in the match Image)until with an hour to go the weather got so bad he had to put his pole up the bank grab hold of his umbrella and hang on for grim death Image. for a few mins he could not fish (it was like the end of the world ) then all of a sudden crash bang wallop a boat smashed into the bank crushing his keepnet the boat dragged along the towpath side Image . my old man let go of his brolly that landed in the hedge behind him , he quickly grabbed it and took it down , he chased along the towpath to grab the boater at the rear of the boat . the net was not to be seen. after alot of threatening as big as this bloke was my old man got £50 quid off him for his net and pools money (a miracle in itself) if he had not parted with his cash it may have been his life Image (as small as my old man is). anyway after the boat pulled away my old man went back to his box to sit down furious still ,when he caught a glimpse of what looked like a keepnet , he grabbed his landing net and dragged the net towards him , the net was ripped at the top but further to the base of the net was not . unbelievably there were still fish in there Image, he weighed in 4 .1/2 lb from memory and finished second 9lb won it so even with the lost fish he would have faired no better . so all ended well in the end. unfortunately i dont think he's had any luck since haha :'(.

Same here Dodge. I have fished that cut over 50 years and ended up three miles away from where my peg should have been.
A few of us ended up the other side of peg 1 Image Image I was peg 120.
Still won section though Image Image

I'm considering pegging the National like this; now that would be fun Image

Spare a thought for the guy that sorted it all out yesterday. He was not responsible for ferking the draw up. I actually drew his peg, he was on 64, exactly the same peg he framed off last summer with skimmers; he may well have framed again as peg 66 did. He ended up not fishing the match but sorting out extra sections and sorting parking out.

The ones that ferked the draw up all ended up fishing; I, like several others were told to go to Deepmore. We ended up at Milford.

No easy job to run a match of that size bill i know and i felt sorry for the lad that run it and explain everything  Image Image i also felt sorry for a dozen lads who were behind us at the draw who had driven up from wiltshire (devizes)   and peterborough   Image

Alls well that ends well as they say   ;)  Image

Can you guess who that endearing character was?
