Monk Lake 1, 10th April 2021
Posted: April 11th, 2021, 9:16 am
Our first match of the year - just 8 fished today - not really surprising after a long and wierd old winter I guess.
The effects of a long Lock Down also produced a few surprises - Josh virtually unrecognisable with long flowing locks and a full beard, while Dave definitely looked like an ageing rocker with hair down to his shoulders
The weather didn't help either - CRAP comes to mind - ccccccold, windy with occasional rain - all of course exaggerated by the well known "Monk Lakes Effect". A big thankyou to those who did brave it today. A few of us got the shivers despite wearing many layers and were glad to take a warm-up tea break in the car. Did I say windy - well during one such break Mr C's entire kit - box, brolly and all was blown into the lake Fortunately most of it was recovered bar 1 tray thanks to John - first I knew of it was three bait boxes wafting past at the other end of the lake
Well in such conditions every-one expected it to be hard............................................and it was.
In that weather you just have to be glad if you can get some kind of sport. Well Terry did just that and was todays winner with a steady 43lb, followed by yours truly with 36lb.
Result: (our peg numbers - we fished the back bowl with pegs 1-4 on the far side and 5-8 on the near):
1. Terry peg 4, 43-04lb
2. Tony R peg 5, 36-08lb
3. Josh peg 2, 26-08lb
4. Chris W peg 1, 25-08lb
5. Dave peg 8, 20-00lb
6. Jim peg 3, 7-00lb
7. John peg 7, 6-08lb
8. Gino peg 6, DNW
Pools - 1-4 Terry £12; 5-8 Tony R £12
Next match in 2 weeks time should be Arrans - Dave will confirm on Monday.
