1lb 2oz winning on the Trent. Well done Yamo. Was it in flood guys, or gin clear. I have never seen such a low winning weight at Burton.  :o

mr v how are you?
it was gin clear, looked perfect to be honest but there were simply no numbers of fish there.makes you think what's happened to the trent all of a sudden, as there have been reports of no fish caught at all on 2 big matches in burton in previous weeks and similar tales from pleasure anglers and locals( friends of kev). A debate took place at the end in the clubhouse where we thought maybe the closing down of drakelow power station might have had big effect on the roach shoals, with no warm water coming through having a detrimental effect. Maybe the roach were spawning, the major thing was there were no fry anywhere to be seen, no gudgeon, no minnow and not a single fish topped all day. All i caught was 12 little perch on worm in last 15mins,majorly frustrating as i love the trent and cannot understand what is wrong. Never catch any dace or bleak anymore either, back in the day it was full of them.

would be interesting to hear ur opinions on what you think might be cause of this poor form

Its a bummer when it looks good and doesnt produce. I dont think Drakelow has a lot to do with it as it hasnt really pumped warm water in for several years now, not like it used to do anyway. It looked like this season was going to be bumper on the Trent. :(
I think the Roach spawnng may be an issue, but that doesnt excuse the lack of hand sized skimmers that used to preodominate along Baileys. And a lack of gudgeon is also a worry.
Still, look on the bright side, you are fishing matches, something i miss terribly up here  :'(
Have found a newish commercial up here (thats how desperate I am to find some coarse fishing !!) and had some nice Tench and mirrors last week. Fished 3 hours and easy topped 40lb. A few locals have given me some info on the Rivers up here and places where I can coarse fish after October. Apparently big lump Roach  Image

Well I approached this venue full of confidence, having been given a few pointers by Yamo as he's fished this stretch since he was a kid. Liked the look of the river and my peg. Didn't like gin clear water or blanket of weed on bottom. Took 3 1/4 hours of hard slog for 1st bite small roach then an even smaller perch with 45 mins to go. Was surprised to find myself just outside the frame even though i knew others had struggled.

Image fished a match on the severn last sunday down Eardington

best days river fishing i've had for along time finished just short of 18lb
mixed bag of roach, dace, perch, chub and a small barbel Image

could of had more if hadn't spent nearly 2 hours on the halibut pellet :( but ran out of maggots, used nearly 4 pints and 3 pints of hemp with two pints off caster  Image
