The 1st round of the Angling Trust Oxford winter league was fished by 6 teams of 8 on a low clear Thames at Culham and Appleford reach. In bright sunny conditions with little wind and even less flow the river fished hard but, with bloodworm and joker allowed for the 1st time this season, there were still some good weights even though some sections were extremely hard.
st Gary Barclay – Drennan Oxford – 14lb 6oz. Gary made the most of the bottom end peg on Appleford reach with a mainly roach catch on 13m pole and a variety of baits over groundbait laced with joker and caster.
nd Bubbles Head – Drennan Oxford – 14lb 5oz. Bubbles drew 1st peg below Donkey bridge at Culham and had a mainly perch net on the pole and worm over chop worm feed.
rd Martin Kirk – Sensas A4 – 12lb 13oz. Martin drew in the bottom section at Appleford and had a mixture of roach and perch on the pole and caster over groundbait.
th Pete Bowles – Sensas A4 – 12lb 10oz
th Tim Kaye – Isis – 11lb 15oz.
