The practice match for the 1st round of the Oxford winter league was fished by 45 anglers on the Thames at Abingdon and Culham. With a clear river with very little flow and a bright sunny day the roach did not feed and the anglers who did best were those on perch or skimmer pegs.
st Bobby Stewart - ISIS - 21lb 9oz. Bobby drew 1st peg below Abingdon bridge and made the most of a noted big perch area and had specimens to over 3lb on pole and worm over chopped worm feed.
nd Martin Phipps - Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths - 17lb 15oz. Martin drew opposite Wilsham road and had mainly skimmer bream to 1lb on small pieces of worm on 14m pole over groundbait.
rd John Taylor - Tubertini Apollo - 17lb 1oz. John drew opposite the sailing club and also had skimmer bream on pole fished worm over groundbait.
th Gary Barclay - Drennan Banbury Gunsmiths - 13lb 7oz
th Darren Wright - Sensas A4 - 12lb 3oz
