Report from Tony Vandome
Once again we were blessed with fantastic match fishing, roach, dace and perch fed freely over the three days quite remarkable really considering the conditions, a low gin clear river, bright sunshine and no wind, over 60 double figure nets of prime roach were landed. Day one started with one of the best displays of long pole hemp fishing ever witnessed on the Trent.Tony Marshall drew upstream of the A6 roadbridge at Shardlow, fishing 16m with along line and 4 x14 rig he plundered 40lb of quality roach to over a pound for an easy win doubling runner up Steve Newns who finished with a level 19lb on wag and mag.
Day two and Shardlow was again the stretch to draw this time upstream on the early numbers Sam Merry fishing waggler with tares for 21lb plus of roach just holding off Trent legend Colin Walton who netted 20lb of mainly dace on stickfloat and caster. Tony Marshall was at Burton on Sherrats and netted 19lb 12oz for third and the all important section win. After two days Tony led the Festival with 2 points Sam Merry on 3 with a tight pack chasing them.
Day three and Tony was right in the spotlight would he draw another good peg? The answer was yes end peg on Bailey's and he didn't disappoint weighing 13lb 14oz for a section win to claim his second Burton Angling Festival! Winner on the day was Wayne Swinscoe who long poled hemp for 55 roach for 21lb 6oz.
The Festival was great but it wouldn't go ahead with out the great work of the Coors ac members who work tirelessly over the 3 day's would also like to thank our sponsors who have supported us from the start 6 years ago. Coors, Shakespeare, Bait-tech, Wovencrest and Drennan, lastly thanks to Derby Railway ac for the use of there Shardlow waters.
