Bill - my list was just a starting point - feel free to add your thoughts ....
On a personal level I'd love to add Ray Mills and Ray Mumford - both great team mates at different times .... but they probably wouldn't make the cut

Kim Milsom and Dave Vincent were pretty good as well. Dave esp won 3 matchman titles on fishing different venues, unlike nowadays where most stick to the same puddles.

I do know this list but I'm crappity smack well sworn to secrecy
I can say that you are are on the mark or very near it. I would not be giving anything away saying that my (it is only opinion) favourite here is without question Kevin Ashurst.
There are as couple of real heavyweight legends that nobody has mentioned yet though but bear in mind the bit about cutting their teeth on the canals.
If anyone gets near to these two I'll hint at at it in my sort of way

Not the Fred you are thinking of.
As the title hints at you are looking for real legends of the match circuit from bygone days; they maybe didn't make their names on the canal circuit at that time, although some did, but that type of fishing put them all onto further greatness in their later career in match fishing.
At the end of the day they are all personal opinions but loads of reseach and even greater thought has gone into this project.
Although I do know the names, it was some time back now and there was at least fifteen or more mentioned and reducing it to ten was the difficult bit. Some may not agree with the final ten (I didn't if I remember right!) but like I said earlier they are all opinions.
It is a great thread through, anything to do with the history and heritage of match fishing is.
Most of the names have been mentioned (some are not included) but there are a few more to find.
It is all about bringing the CRT and angling closer together and that really has to be a good thing as we can all benefit from this.
This will be followed by another project, quite different but equally as interesting to is canal nutters
Keep your eyes on the CRT website today for the next one in the Top Ten

Definitely up there CV.
When you see him mention if we ever finished that snooker game off in Enniskillen, - see if he remembers!!!!
There are still a couple of real legends of match fishing that started on the canal circuit.
