Drennan or matchman ( or hands and fingers)

Which one do you use, does it differ for low diameter lines below 0.10 to size 20 - 26 hooks as against carp lines and hooks ? also why do you use it. ?

I always use a matchman , so much faster for me than tying by hand. I use drennan double strengh line and it ties up perfectly.

I've never encountered any pig tails on my hooklengths, I always wet the line before tightening the knot

Now I know you you really want to know this.

"Model Perfect" were the first of the recognised named fishing hooks. They were designed by Samuel Allcock about 110 years ago believe it or not. Allcocks were a huge fishing company in those days.
As late as 1967 there was no mention of 'spade end' hooks. In that year you could buy Model Perfect Gold Plated or Bronzed hooks to 18 inches of nylon. Quote "technology has enabled us to make a new and highly important improvement: a resin-impregnated whipping which trebles the life of each and every mounted hook we make." These hooks were not spade they just came to a stop with the end bit slightly crimped to hold the glue.

The choice in those days was really limited but the Model Perfect was what every hook was based on. The other hooks they produced were called Beatall, Lincoln and Pershora, basically that was it. The last two were retailed by Allcocks but made in France.
You could never unravel the crappity smack nylon and always lost a few!

To complete the hook scenario Allcocks first introduced nylon monofil into Britain in 1938; it was only available in short lengths and used as fly casts. It was only until after the war that monofil continuous lines became available although it was still hard to get as cat gut was more commonly used and I suppose much cheaper.

I hope you will not loose any sleep taking this important information in!!!!!! :rofl :rofl :rofl
