I went and watched the last 20 minutes and helped weigh in yesterday on the Staffs/Worcs canal at Awbridge at it really opened my eyes to the canal fishing we have in the Midlands.

What really surprises me is the lack of interest in these matches, only 13 turned up!

They are very well run on some very good stretches of canal.

The winner was Steve Cope (Towpath2) on a peg just before the narrows at the end of the reeds with a weight of chub up to 4lb that totalled 39lb caught on worm and caster.

Second was Dave Lloyd (Lloydy) with another chub weight of 21lb despite losing a few big fish in the tree opposite.

Richard Guest was 3rd off the first peg with 19lb to just pip Dave Holbrook with 18lb.

I watched Paul Turner for a while and he "only" weighed in 5lb 9oz due to getting pestered with roach,Gudgeon and small chub on caster.

If this were any where else in the country i think they would be getting 50 anglers!

You lads down there don`t realise how lucky you are with the amount and variety of venues on offer, especially for silver fish on canals. If we had just one canal up here :(, it would be sold out each week Image

Well done Towpath2 Image

Not fished Awbridge for at least 10 years, but yep another cracking stretch of cut. Sure it didnt hold that sort of head of chub those days but was full of roach and gobies then

Do you still park up at the farm (with the wandering geese) and leave a 50p in the box  Image
