The mighty Drennan Team England squad has been practising hard all week in Belgium in readiness for the 2014 European Angling Championship this weekend. The talented team of Alan Scotthorne, William Raison, Sean Ashby, Simon Willsmore, Lee Kerry and Callum Dicks are competing on the Hensies-Pommerœul Canal in Bernissart. The venue has been very difficult in areas with scores of blanks on the Monday practice session, but bream have now begun to show in numbers as they begin to settle over anglers’ feed. To put things into perspective, the entire team failed to get a bite on the Monday, then recorded a combined 123kg of bream on the Tuesday session! Tactics are sketchy so far as no team wants to give away their game plans but we expect the waggler and slider to play a substantial part, along with the long pole. Bloodworm and joker over groundbait and leam should be the key to getting bites and those all-important points for the team. It’s certainly not going to be easy, but this type of venue should hopefully suit Drennan SensasTeam England who have no fewer than three former World Champions in their six

Day one result
England's section results from Day One of the European Champs in Belgium. Will Raison 2nd with 8kg, Alan Scotthorne 5th with 7kg, Callum Dicks 6th, Sean Ashby 8th, Lee Kerry 15th. That places them on 36 points, which is joint 5th on the day with the Netherlands. As expected, France are well up there with an impressive 29 points but it is the Czechs who are surprise leaders on 27. Their angler won Alan's section thanks to five bream in the last hour on two worms for 11kg. Italy are 3rd with 35 points. These are big 24-peg sections so points can be easily made up and a number of teams are still in the mix. As the official results come in the heavens have now opened and it's absolutely pouring down!
