That is a terrific watch TK. I do remember the name of Chris Love and Tonkers from down here from those days. Mind you I must have been only 5 years old then. :D

I do remember the name of Chris Love and Tonkers from down here

Didnt Chris Love' s younger bro used to do an article in the bi monthly 'black and white' Match Fishing mag in the 80's Image

(One for Taypot to delve into the archives when he's got 5 mins)

Not seen that before TK, really enjoyed it.
Could remember lots of them including a few spectators believe it or not.
Chris Love's brother is Andy Love, he does a few match results for AM.
Tonkers AC. Tonkers was the name them Savveners used to call dace I believe; CV will tell me if I'm wrong.
Tony Rees, peg 5, brilliant to see him again. He was listed as Worksop but it was the very same Tony Rees that fished for BAA and the all conquering Cofton Hackett.
I thinks a chap named John Parsons, from Leeds way, won the first ever Woodbine.
In those days you had to win a qualifier; I won one on the T&M then you got to the semi final. There was loads of qualifiers and over 100 in that one I won. You then went to the semi final where so many went through, can't remember how many. My semi final was on the River Trent at Shardlow and I was the fastest loser :'(
If anybody dropped out I would have gone to Denmark but nobody did.
I won another qualifier on the cut somewhere and that semi was on the Trent at Swarkestone. Ivan was on the opposite bank and he made the rest of us in that area lok like muppets! :'(

Happy days Image Ta TK

Nice to see so many using 506s and 507s.
We used to take a part out so they would backwind.
We also used to glue several short lengths of strong line, at intervals, so they just pertruded over the spools themselves. This stopped the line blowing back into the reel in a facing wind.
Still got one of my doctored 506s but have given a few of them away.

Aye - the years are catching up with me too - I remember quite a few names from it too :o

Andy Love also used to do a column in MF in the 80's - 'Love stories' if my memory serves me..........

Sounds like you had some desperate bad luck in getting to one of the finals bill :'( :'( :'( - hard luck - but a few good memories no doubt

Some scumbag nicked my 2 506s (or were they 507s Imagewith the rest of my clobber) in the early 90's

But I'm still using a couple of close face reals when I fish the Trent (occasionally) - ones a 506 I picked up from a mate, the other a Daiwa

Oy Sprucey,

My specs are clear mate.
I don't know whether you saw that Woodbine film but they were roach; silver things that are proper fish.

My hat was nicked about 10 years ago; I am still looking for it.
Does it fit Louie? Image

Great, in fact crappity smackin f**kin great Image really enjoyed that even though I was rather young then (9yrs), two years later went everywhere with Tony Scott and got to meet Clive, Max and Ken plus loads of others as Tony would take me all over the place, Huntspill, Bristol Avon, Coombe Abbey, Trent, Warwickshire Avon etc.
If I remember Ken Giles came fifth in that match, happy days and many thanks. Respect Image
