General Meeting 23rd Sep 1980 - Matters arising
'Mr M Roberts commented that he had tried to get a supply of whistles, without any success, but he would try again' - perhaps there was a world wide shortage those days !!!
The future of the club was now discussed.......
'The Chairman welcomed our vice president Mr A Harrison to the meeting saying that he looked forward to receiving Mr Harrison’s advice and comments on the main purpose for this meeting, which was to discuss the future of the Angling Section in the light of recent events. After much discussion, Mr Cameron proposed the Angling Club should continue regardless of whether the Sports and Social Club continues. This proposal was seconded by Mr D Ward and agreed by the rest of the members present. Further discussion followed, including the suggestion that, if necessary, we should discontinue giving cash prizes and just fish for the trophies available, and also that we could increase the pool monies as an alternative to giving prize money
The problem of angling subscriptions which was bought up at the 1979 AGM was discussed next. In an effort to meet rising costs generally and also to reduce the subsidy paid to us by the Sports & Social Club, it was proposed by Mr B Kenn and seconded by Mr L Kiteley, that from January 1981, our subscriptions be increased to £4 over and above the cost of the B.A.A cards.
A counter proposal was made by Mr G Safe and seconded by Mr K Shaw that the increase should be £3 over and above the cost of the B.A.A card. When put to the meeting, there were 4 votes in favour of Mr safe’s proposal and 8 votes in favour of Mr Kenn’s proposal which was carried
Further discussions followed concerning peg fees that had to be paid when contests were booked, but were not recouped from members who did not turn up on those contests.. As this problem is not too great at the moment, it was decided to leave this matter in abeyance for the time being.'

A G M 25th Nov 1980
Mr Bunn commenced by saying that 1980 had proved a very difficult year for the Sports and Social Club, due to various factors, including the closing down of the Sheet Division at Great Bridge, and that he was sorry to see several of the ‘old faces’ missing from the meetings these days. He confirmed that even if the Social Club should close down, the commitments of the Angling Section for 1981 will be honoured.
( In view of the drop in membership envisaged for 1981 the ‘committee’ was reduced to 6 members, which included PhilB, MGB and Heinzer. )
BAA Increased Subscriptions
The secretary read to the meeting a letter from the B.A.A detailing the reasons for the rather hefty increase in the cost of BAA cards for 1981. After much discussion it was decided that, although we were not altogether happy with their increases, we should remain affiliated to the BAA for the time being.’
Any other business
5) Mr S Cameron, whilst apologising for turning up late for our contest at Twyning, said that he arrived there to find that, due to flood conditions, the contest had been rearranged elsewhere, with no indication of where we had gone. He asked whether, should this situation arise again, could not a message be left in a prominent position. It was pointed out to Mr Cameron that this could cause difficulties as any note left would constitute litter.
Mr Upton added that, on the same contest, he, together with 3 other members, had become separated from the main party, and was unable to find the re-arranged venue. It was then decided that, should this situation arise in future, all members should move off en bloc at 9am to the re-arranged venue and that any late comers would just have to take ‘pot luck’.’

BAA Delegates Report
Mr D ward reported that it had been a very traumatic year for the B.A.A who had experienced a fall in membership, resulting in a drop in income caused by the steep increase in the cost of membership.
After various problems the B.A.A Social Club was now more viable.
The B.A.A had dropped out of the N.F.A
The minimum membership for affiliated clubs has now been reduced to 15.
Complaints
The Chairman then asked the meeting if there were any complaints or matters which they wished to air in front of the meeting.
Mr B Kenn wished it to be made clear that members who leave their pegs during a contest, other than for ‘the call of nature’ would be liable for disqualification. It was pointed out to mr Kenn that this was one of our club rules and of course is subject to any complaint being lodged immediately after a club contest with a committee member.
Mr S Cameron reminded the club that knotted keepnets will be illegal in Severn/Trent Authority waters from 1st Jan 1982.
He went on to say that that, with regard to the high number of unemployed in the Midlands at the present time, the question had been raised at the B.A.A as to whether they could issue membership cards either free of charge, or at a reduced price. After some discussion it had been decided that, whilst the B.A.A were sympathetic about the problem, it would not be practical for them to agree to this.
Mr J Rowland referred to an incident some time ago when a member had been found fishing after the final whistle. He was informed that there was little that could be done at this stage as it had been decided at the time that this was a genuine error. It was proposed by Mr Cameron and seconded by Mr B Kenn that the club should purchase whistles for All committee members.
Any other business
1) Mr D Davies stated that he was not very happy with the rule that allowed the Aggregate Winner to also win the Booby Prize. After much discussion, it was proposed by Mr V Priest and seconded by Mr B Kenn that in future the winner of the Booby Prize should be decided by the club committee. A counter proposal was made by Mr S Cameron who stated that we should keep the original rule at the Booby prize be awarded to the person who fishes most contests but weighs the least weight, but it should not be awarded to anyone that who has already won a trophy during the same year. The proposal was seconded by Mr J Rowland. Mr V Priest then withdrew his proposal and Mr Cameron’s proposal was carried unanimously
5)Mr Upton thanked the members for such a good turnout for the meeting and then called upon Mr F Bunn, who had now managed to get to the meeting, to say a few words. Mr Bunn explained that, due to various problems caused by the fact that he was no longer employed by Cashmores, he did not expect to carry on as Social Club Secretary after the next Annual general meeting. He did, however, hope that the Angling Club would go from strength to strength and that he would be accompanying the Angling Secretary again in 1982 to choose still another lot of trophies.

£11 BAA club coarse card
£7 fishing club contribution
The total fee may change depending on the BAA card reqd, but the £7 club contribution will be a constant charge for 1983. This proposal was carried unanimously
Change of Club Name
Mr F Bunn proposed and Mr P Turner seconded that the club should be called ‘Casmhores Sports & Social Club Angling section’. This was proposed to enable us to put the money collected by this club for the 1983 season into a separate bank a/c. This proposal was carried unanimously.
Any other business

Meeting 22nd Mar 1983 - Booking of 1984 contests
It was suggested by Mr John Rowlands that where possible venues should be applied for closer to the Midlands, cutting down on travelling costs.
It was also suggested by Peter Turner that only one contest should be held in the Jan to March period of the year. There were no objections to these suggestions
B.A.A Delegates report
Mr John Rowlands reported that the M&B had taken over the running of the B.A.A Club (as the club had been a heavy burden on B.A.A funds)
He was informed that money is to be raised by selling some waters in Wales.
The B.A.A delegate was asked to get the opinion of the club on the close season being abolished. A vote was taken and it was the unanimous decision to keep the closed season.
We were also informed that the B.A.A were considering increasing the number of contests fishing clubs could fish in a year.
Barry Cashmore Cup
'Mr Fred Bunn offered the Barry Cashmore Cup to the fishing club. (Ex football cup) This offer was accepted with thanks. It was then decided that the cup will be presented to the winner of the first contest held in September each year.'

Meeting 10th May 1983
The meeting was informed that Mr Fred Bunn was retiring as treasurer of the fishing club. The meeting expressed regret at his decision.
Vote of confidence
Mr Barry Kenn asked if the club was viable as there were only 20 members in the club. This point of view was discussed for some time and it was pointed out that the club although small was in a good financial position (approx £500)
Mr Phil Broadstock asked for a vote of confidence for the continuation of the club. This was seconded by Mr Alan Bishop. ALL members of the club present voted that the club should continue.
A vote of thanks was proposed by Mr Dave Meredith and seconded by Mr Bill Upton for all the help and support Mr Fred Bunn had given the fishing club over the past years.

A G M 14th Dec 1983 - Prize Presentation Evening
It was agreed by the meeting that tickets sold to members children (under 16) should be sold at £1.50 each but full price to everyone else.
It was also agreed that prizes should be presented by Mr J Rowlands and announcements to be made by Mr A Wilkes.
Mr A Wilkes and Mr Roy Hill also agreed to run the tombola and the door to be manned on an ad hoc basis.Barry Kenn agreed to do the photography.
Fund Raising
Mr Mick Kenn suggested that we should hold a lucky peg draw. 50% of sum collected to go to the winner 50% to go to club. Mr Bill Upton developed the idea into a sheet with 32 numbers on it, a member should pay 10p to put his name under a number (as many goes as he likes 10p a go) A draw would then be held winner to get 50% of money collected. If the number was not allocated to a member all the money would go to the club. The above idea was then proposed by Mr D Meredith and seconded by Mr D Webber and agreed by the meeting
Subs for 1984
The meeting was advised that the B.A.A fee had increased to £12.50. The £7 club fee to stay the same. Therefore the club membership increased by £1 to £19 (sums don’t quite add up!!!)

Tk browsing the all our yesterdays pages I noted some references to a inter divisional match fished on the river Usk.
This match was an annual event fished usually on the Avon, at Ekington.Being approx. half way between Newport and the midlands. In the interests fairness this one was fished on the Usk to ease the transport for the lads from South Wales.
The midlands party travelled by coach.
It was a God dammed awful day, it rained all the previous day and through most of the match.
The match sectioned was split over two fields, access was via a recently ploughed field. the mud stuck like s--- to a blanket.
The water booked by a Cashmores director was really a fly fishing syndicated beat with few pegs suitable for coarse fishing.
Vic Priest drew the only likely peg and my recollection is that he won with a catch of dace.
No fish were killed.
After the match the customary social get together was held in a pub in Usk. with staff from both areas attending.
The venue again booked by the said director was his local watering hole. He persuaded the publican to open early to accommodate us.
Such was the behaviour of some none fishing party members from the midlands that we were requested to leave immediately food was eaten.
Needless to say no further invites were forthcoming from South Wales.
The culprits continued to make a nuisance of themselves on the return journey, with the driver refusing point blank to stop for them to ship on board additional amounts of ale.
I may be wrong but I cannot remember any further inter divisional matches after that one

Never....can't believe the members of Cashmores ever behaved like that. Can you imagine the carnage if Big Col, FK and Dead peg were in the club at that time

In defence of club members now then and now these fellow travellers were Cashmore employees, not fishing club members.
I believe they were on a misguided pilgrimage to find their mothers, in an effort to reintroduce them to their fathers. If you get the gist of my comments

It's great to see that the history of the club has and is being kept and preserved
It in my opinion brings together both new and old members and a great feeling of tradition and an appreciation of all the hard work put into the club for future generations to enjoy. Long may it continue.

It's interesting to see how far we've come in such a short space of time .
I was talking with Paul carthy today and he was talking about it. He had some criticism s about commies and the effect they've had on tackle shops which may I say I do agree with in some respects .I mean what would we do without are local tackle shops. I don't suppose that it will ever be as big as the 80s but we must help keep them going.

Browsing the forum and prompted by a conversation with the current Mrs B. I recalled a match on the River Avon, fished at a then favourite venue of Court Farm, Offenham.
I was drawn next to an ex-member( famed for his ability to drop of to sleep almost anywhere) Mick Burns,
Having settled into his peg, Mick proceeded to empty his somewhat commodious snack box, placing his sandwiches etc. into his tackle box for safe keeping.
With 30 minutes to the whistle he set out to fill the now empty box with Blackberries ,quickly filling the box to overflowing and pronouncing the his wife would be well pleased with his efforts.
The box was "safely placed " in the shade of the hedgerow at the back of his peg.
The match progressed and had almost finished when a cry of anguish came from Mick. His prized Blackberries had been devoured by a white horse reaching over the hedge from an adjacent field. He was somewhat miffed to say the least.
No Blackberry and Apple pie for Mick that week
