Thing is it aint dorking barnsley starlets that makes team fishing its the teams that turn up week in week out putting their money in the pot and giving their best.  one big problem is money fishing is a working mans sport for the masses but when you look at the money folks are spending its being elitist. The average man cannot afford or justify

Well said Benjamiiiiin,

Can anyone explain, with any degree of fairness and logic as to why a team that finished EIGHTEENTH in the Division One National Championships qualifies to represent England in the World Inter Clubs Championships.
Anyone????? Image Image

Because the other teams  who finished above Barnsley  havn`t got the man balls to fish against Dorking....
IMO they missed some proper fishing.

Chris, the winners should have the choice to go end of, this fish off was created by Steve Saunders because over the years Dorking have struggled to win nationals because squatt fishing and river fishing hasn't been their strong points over the years.  They are a lot better now with the likes of Buch and Diddy in the team

LOL again IMO anglers who team match fish have no man balls and no longer want to fish against the best in the country and learn off the better anglers...End of ;) only my opinion Image this is where team match fishing has gone lady lumps up and the serious lack of young anglers.

Chris, shaky has already fished against them and beat them, it's not a case of not wanting to fish against Dorking, it's a case of not wanting to be ripped off. You ask the starlets lads and they'll admit that downsy has done everything over the years to get things his way, Steve did the same coming up with this play off and anglers ain't buying it. I loved the national drennan league and something like that would be much better than that play off.

Correct Chris the trouble is there are far to many matches nowerdays so anglers can win club matches .pick and choose which one they have the best chance in .team fishing is completely different ball game to win you have to beat the best like any other sport . You can't win the champions league without facing the best teams on the plant it's the money side of it that is dragging anglers down mate

Lloydy from what I can make out the winners of next years Div 1 national will be fishing the World club champs unless a new Sponsor can be found.

Yep Preston's sponsorship finished last weekend
Perhaps the winners of next years National could nominate a team if they didn't fancy fishing it save a lot of trouble and I'm pretty sure which would be the most popular choices Dorking Barnsley and starlets simple Image

Spot on Joff. Winners of Division one qualify for World Club Championships....end of. Maybe some of the money that's "disappearing" in the A.T's coffers should be used to help the qualifying club take part in the prestigious event abroad Image

all well and good the winners of the national going to the world champs but most teams wouldn't be able to afford this experience when bawtry won div 1 a few years ago they went Portugal got £5k towards it it cost everyone who fished it £1500 apiece to fish £5k goes nowere cost them £15k all in all not a cheap week for your average man Image Image

what would it take for you to fish another national or winter league mate as we can all run away from them but it will leave us with nothing .surely its better to fine a solution why should you give up something you love to fish

At the end of the day we all want to go fishing and fish competitions in one way its as much our faults because we have let it go on you years and now money is hard to come by we are seeing just how much we are having to pay for the privilege of the A/Ts to run matches
if anything the NFA did the same but back then there was 5 nationals coaches laid on and perhaps over the 5 nationals 7,000 anglers
The trust have got greedy if you look at just how many competitions they run
as for the balance sheets its as expected covered up a few things :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
Riverfest Evesham 19 no shows if you haven't cancelled your ticket 10 days before you won't get your money back does this stand for all A/TS competitions >:( yet the winner i heard at the weekend got £120 ok through to the final ::) but come on it's not rocket science where does this money go

Well said Lloydy  Image

Anyone under the assumption teams are afraid of taking the likes of Dorking , Barnsley and Starlets on are way off the mark   Image Image The pro,s are beatable , results show this time and time again .

It is a cost and time thing plus we all know the Angling Trust are taking the p!ss and ripping us off . Bring back leagues like the old super league format run by other match anglers or the like and break away from the Angling Trusts control of big events has to be the way forward !
In certain parts of the county leagues are sold out in days just by word of mouth ......... it isnt rocket science !

Everyone years ago moaned like crappity smack that match fishing should be more professional, now every crappity smack don`t want to fish a professional match :-/. Don`t make sense to me, forget what the ATs taking for the moment (I must add that the AT stewards at the weekend were there for the love of the sport and never got paid just their expenses, which I have on good authority).
Seven thousand pound to the winning team to cover the costs of the World club champs and anglers bottled out.
Some teams may have not wanted to fish due to funds BUT I know teams did not want to fish against Barnsley and Dorking because they are too good.
This why team fishing is going lady lumps up IMO no one wants to learn anymore.

The fish off is so the best teams go to the world club champs and I can understand that and if the team I were fishing for qualified I wouldn't be able to go as I couldn't afford a family holiday and to do that, but either have the national as a means to get there with the winning team having first refusal and so on or if they don't want the national winning team to go then completely separate the qualifier from the national then the top teams and others that want to qualify can fight it out

I agree anglers don't want to fish against Dorking Chris, teams are dropping out of leagues because they don't want to fish against teams that win there leagues every year then when they get a team close to beating them they have there best anglers off them, this was ok years ago when there were plenty more hungry anglers coming through but those anglers coming through seem to have gone. I packed in Tipton because it was getting harder and harder to replace anglers and no one seemed to up for it like before

Interesting views here but surely this Play-Off thingy does nothing but completely devalue the National Championships.

As Chris says the National winning team will probably be offered the opportunity of fishing the World Inter Clubs.

What really has the last four years done except reduce the entry year on year in the National Championships.

At the current rate of decline there will be 30 teams tops in the National by the end of the 2020s.

Does anybody care or is it all grab for this moment and crappity smack the future :'(

Once its gone its gone.shame to see as personally love the national, dont think its people bein scared of big teams either if that was the case div 2 would have loads teams in it, I reckon that fish off should never had owt to do with the national should of used the sponsorship money to maybe spread it to the top 5 teams in both divisions to get a bit of interest, but we should all break away from angling trust regarding nationals and then if somebody ran them for half the cost we would still be better off before its to late coz tge anglers will never cone back.let the top teams fight it out to go for world club champs and not use our match as a stepping stone got to look after the majority of what tge anglers want not just 3 or 4 teams leave them to get on with it that way there happy and so are we

I love team fishing more than any individual event by a country mile and my fondest memories are nationals, super league and winter league finals on the Nene but I can't see these events happening ever again on that magnitude, the atmosphere on the tidal Trent this year just didn't feel like a big final. There seems to be more recognition theses days for anglers that stay on the same venue 3 times a week fishing against 15 to 20 anglers then writing on forums how good they are than anglers who want to fish big matches so if your a young angler which way are you going to go
