Tough first day for many in Preston World Club Championship Qualifier
Matrix Dynamite Trentmen have won the first day of the Preston Innovations World Club Championship Qualifier on Newark Dyke, with a 20 point score. The team, consisting of Rob Perkins, Lee Wright, Adrian Higginbottom, Dean Cherrington, Ant King and Lee Richmond, beat second placed Kamasan Starlets by a four point margin.

Team Captain, Rob Perkins said: "There is obviously a long way to go, and the venue is fishing extremely patchy, so anything is possible tommorow. That said, we are delighted to be leading, and are crossing our fingers for a good day."

In the individual stakes, it was again Rob Perkins who led his team by example, winning the match outright with a 9 kilo 340 gram net, made up of 15 skimmers, all taken on flat float tactics. Tommorow is the final day of the competition, and the team with the best cumulative points score will travel to Italy, to represent England in next years World Club Championship.

Day One Result
1 Matrix Dynamite Trentmen- 20pts
2 Kamasan Starlets 24pts
3 Ultimate Barnsley 27pts

Individual Result
1 Rob Perkins (Matrix Dynamite Trentmen) 9-540
2 Steve Hemmingray (Kamasan Starlets) 7-150

Kamasan Starlets top Preston World Club Classic on Newark Dyke
Kamasan Starlets have won the 2012 Preston World Club Classic, after a gripping final day on an up and coloured Newark Dyke. With three teams in contention, the match came to a tense finale- seeing anglers from Ultimate Barnsley, Kamasan Starlets and Matrix Dynamite Trentmen sitting for big fish in the knowledge that just one bite could see them and there team jet off to Italy for the 2013 World Club Championship.

In the end, it was the newly crowned World Champion- Sean Ashby who swung the verdict in favour of his Kamasan Starlets team- banking a large barbel that catapulted him from last in section to first. Matt Godfrey of Ultimate Barnsley also landed a 2 kilo barbel as the end of the match approached, gaining him valuable section points, but sadly it didn’t prove quite enough for the northern team- who finished a point and a half behind there rivals.

Starlets captain, Mark Downes explained: “we are obviously delighted to have won what has been an elusive title for us- we have finished second and third over the last two years. It is lovely when a plan comes together, and though catching big fish was important, it was our small fish tactics that really clinched us the title. When you consider that a third of the weights we recorded were less than a kilo, it gives you some idea just how hard certain areas of the match were!

When plumbing up, many teams tried to avoid the weed- but we actively searched for it, as we found that by feeding tiny nuggets of cloudy groundbait over the top of it we were able to catch the small fish that lived within it- where as anglers who fished on a clear bottom would catch nowhere near as many.

We started the match by balling in groundbait with just a little bit of joker on what were to become our big fish lines- to try and catch whatever fish we could. Once dried up, we filled these lines in with worms casters, and rich balls of joker. Big fish tackle comprised of strong Drennan Double Strength Line and Kamasan Animal hooks to make sure that we landed the fish that we hooked. Fortunately, a few of our anglers managed big fish- which has proved decisive in the end.

We cant wait to fish the World Club Championship- and are sure that the money that Preston Innovations have kindly donated through sponsorship will go a long way towards ensuring that we come back with a good result.”

In the individual stakes, it was Starlets man Hadrian Whittle who came out top over the two days, with a perfect two point score. On the first day, he won his section with a 4-320 net, which mainly consisted of four bream caught late on in the match on flat float tactics. On the second day, he caught some quality roach early, and a late bream to clinch the section with 3-390. He commented: “It is great to win the individual title, but it is the team result that counts- and I am over the moon that we have managed to win it! The match really did have a gripping finale, and was certainly among the most tense I have ever been in involved in.”

Well done to starlets on winning! :D Just wasn't to be for us i don't think, as our second day draw wasn't the best :( The barbel higgy hooked 10 mins from the end would have seen us there but unfortunately the hook straightened out as he was applying so much pressure to get it in on time. He thought that he'd got 4 mins to play it when he really had more like 8 or 9!! There was a mess up with hooters being sounded at the end with one going off with 10 mins to go then another with 5 mins and then the final hooter! Bit unlucky there me thinks Image

Well done to eveyone who took part , in my opinion this is now the top team match in the country and the one all the top teams want to win.
All the teams put their strongest 6 man team in so you are fishing against the best anglers in the country.
My team have wanted to win this event since its inception and now we finally have and can now look forward to nect years World Club Championships in Italy.
I'd like to thank our bankrunners who I know we couldn't have won this event without.
On the first day I had a current World Champion ( Joe Roberts ) and other team mates had England Internationals running theirs. We also had Keef and there knowledge and experience of International matchfishing proved invaluable. Image Image
