nice catch josh....where exactly is that?...is it right by the image you posted or have you gone further up towards the road bridge and are you on the path side or grass?

never know, might catch you up there and any tips you could give would be greatly appreciated. Image

Hey fluke..

I parked up on bridgewater drive and fished just there infront on the concrete strip.. only taken my basic gear, ruff as hell to risk all my gear Image

when i went i used punch.. pinkie and caster.. i didnt seem to catch >:( much on pinkie/caster.. was all bread just threw in about 1 nuggetof liccy to start.. fish it out till it went quiet and threw in the same again.. finer the better Image

also my rigs were just a simple strung out shotting patterb on the smallest float i had which i think was 4x12.. and yeh 4m whip fished just inside.. any questions let me know and ill happily answer.. if i can Image

probably going to give it a try tomorrow with some bread punch to check it out, whats the best method for liquidised bread there? stale/fresh crusts on/off? or doesnt it really matter?

also...do i need a rod license before i fish? (i have been out of the country for a few years and dont remember the system too well)

yes you'l need a Rod license, you can get a day one for like £3.75 for a full 24hr..

Dont get a full as the renewal starts 31st march..

Try crusts off and running it through a riddle/cullinder to get rid of the lumps! Image

yeah, i noticed the renewal period, thnxs for heads up.

I have also seen parkes hall pool and donkey pool, are these any good?...parke hall seems dirty and poorly maintained so not sure if i would want to fish there but donkey pool seems ok, had any experience fishing either?

thanks for the help josh...true gentleman  Image

well went to the canal this morning by the grassy opening (josh's pic) and didnt get so much as a nibble, moved down towards the second bridge from the tunnel, nothing there either.....could it be the time of the year or just bad luck? ...water was fairly clear but nothing visible. I decided to go to donkey pool to check it out and fished for about 2 hours, the pool is full of carp but thats all it seems, had a few bites but nothing hooked, might have to try parkes pool.

any other advice on the canal as my son really loves it down there but the idea is to catch some fish which wasnt happening today.

thanks again for the help and advice. Image

Not a clue whay happend.. did you try down the track? And what rig setup did yo use?

Did you use the bread punch? Size hook?

thats the two spots i tried, i used a simple crystal waggler float with a single shot half way down and according to this image...

Image

i was using a size 10 hook (hook pack has no size on it for some reason) i do have some hook to nylon size 18 and 20 but thought they may be too small, im second guessing that now.

the length from hook to float was about 60CM.

and i was using bread punch

I would go as small as poss with the hook mate..

And the smallest float I could get away with.. the spot i fished youu should of caught all day.

Did you plummet?

Coseley Canal

if you mean use plummet to get the depth then no because i am using weighted wagglers so wouldnt be able to get the depth but i will take some other floats with me next time to get the depth, i will try again tomorrow with the size 18 and 20 hook to nylons i have with a smaller waggler.

thanks again for helping out a novice. Image

EDIT: just watched a vid from matt hayes and looks like i did a lot wrong so im guessing the no catch was my own fault...gonna try again tomorrow...hope to have tsome better luck!!

went down again yesterday, this time plumbed the depth right, small insert waggler, size 20 hook, bread punch with liccy bread...fished for about an hour and again....nothing, not even a nibble and then a canal boat trundled by ripping up the bottom so i figured it was game over..... gonna go down now for one last attempt but i dont have my hopes up.

maybe they have moved since you were last there josh.

Dont get too disheartened Fluke - we all have days like that. Image

It's still cold, the water hasnt warmed up and the fish aint moving

Give it a month or so and I bet it'll be a different story

To keep the nippers interest you really need to go to venue where there's plenty of gudgeon who would be more prepared to 'have a munch'

I'm hoping its down to the temperature as i went there again today and same story, not even a nibble but the story doesnt end as terrible as the other days as just when i was about to pack up a small fish jumped so at least i dont feel crazy that i am fishing somewhere where there are no fish..lol.. Image, made me feel better anyway. Image

I dont know the area very well at all and combined with the fact i dont drive means i am very limited to where i can go and dont know anyone else who enjoys to fish.

When it warms up i will try the canal again (or if josh goes down and lands another net full.. Image) then he can give me a heads up they are back.

furthest i have been is donkey pool and even though there are plenty of carp/tench in there, it doesnt feel worth the walk with all my gear, i also tried parkes hall pool and had a few nibbles but nothing landed but even that is a 20 minute walk.

roll on summer when i can choose the 5 minute walk to the canal! Image

I can tell you some where else you could try that's infested with carp + silvers.

Ladymoor pool!

I tried it before had a few touches wont be anywhere near as good as the canal.. but depending on where you live from the canal.. try there aswell on a feeder or something Image

When it starts to warm up or something ill pop down to the cut sometime again and take a few piccies...

See how its fairing.
