If you say no floating baits at Blasford then you would have to say the same at Rockells. Now that would upset a few people?

Graham the problem comes about when people feed floating baits without consideration, if to much is fed and is blown out of the swim before being eaten it can then ruin the fishing for those around them. :(

I like to think that I'm pretty easy going in my approach to Marsh club matches, but I've been on the receiving end of this a few years ago when fishing Newlands Hall as a guest of the club, and in all honesty it was only the fact that I was a guest that stopped me from having a row with the angler responsible.

The grief that feeding floaters can cause is the reason that Floating Baits are banned in most matches.

You all know my feelings on floating baits!!!

I agree with everything you say about floating baits - ruining others' swims etc., the point I was making was that we shouldn't change the rules to suit the water or peoples' preferences. Anyway as far as Rockells goes this year, I don't care as I won't be there as I will be on holiday in FLORIDA - YEEHAH!!!!!!!!

Floaters are great for those that use them, but with baits and feed going every where in the wrong conditions it is unfair on the person next to them.

If i plan to fish on the deck then my feed and baits are fed in a controlled manner maximising my chances. However the fish may be up in the water and i can adapt and feed accordingly to catch them without resorting to floating baits which would draw fish out of the catching zone. Al and Tony do this well.

In the right hands floating baits and feed have a place in angling, but in my opinion, not in matches.

Floating baits and feed are ok in still conditions done in moderation. However it looks like it might be a bit breezy on Saturday so I suspect it will be a non starter anyway. I dont remember anyone fishing on the top at Blasford Hill last year - or did I miss something? Have recollections of fishing a perfectly good swim badly and being battered by the opposite bank Not sure that there is a clear winning formula there. When in doubt I pick 2 or 3 swims, feed steadily and consistently, and vary the hookbait/presentation when bites are slow to come or dry up, to try and find the best approach on the day.
