Nice one CraftyTafty - good to hear of your latest exploits Image Particularly Shardlow as we are there later in the year

Also gotta tap you for that Woodseats tel no again ;) - too late for us for 2012, our fixtures are already arranged, but I'd love to visit JCB again in 2013

my outlook is that guys like Tooney would love to be out on the bank, even if they were rapless, so a bad day for me aint that bad really

Too true - that really does put things into perspective Image

certainly be interesting to hear what MrV has to say as he appeared to echo my sentiments

Well here goes then ::)
The opinion you expressed to me after the match was exactly how I have been feeling lately about some matches I have been on. Because of my back problems, and my recent "heart scare", I have fished more commies than I had hoped to this year, but must admit, it has been handy parking behind the peg. It is great to get out on the bank anytime, but, even though I have won a couple on Carp venues this year, it has been doing what I consider I do best, silvers fishing. I am sure if the Carp had been in feeding mode at Thorpe, I would have probably finished in the bottom 5, and Claires pool was generally abysmal if it hadnt been for the banter. I think I seriously considered packing in twice during that match, but kept going cos of the laughs. Image

I have respect for the commie lads, as they have learned their "trade" on these venues, but I am much in the same mode as you TK, I just cannot put in enough time on them or feel cofident enough in what I am doing, to be any good at it :-/

I will be picking and choosing my matches next season, as following my upcoming operation, I hope to be fit enough to fish more Rivers and Cuts with long walks. Much as I love club fishing, and the characters on the bank, what with the cost of fuel, bait etc, I will be staying local, and fishing venues and methods I know, and have confidence in. ;)

I was well impressed watching Dead peg fish the pellet wag, and thought how easy he made it look, but I know he has put time in to perfect the method. Difference is, I would rather put my time into catching a nice net of Roach, Dace, Chub or bream on a natural venue, in a pleasant setting, not sittin 4 or 5 yards away from the lad in the next peg ( I could have blinded Cotti or Yamo with my top 3 on Saturday if I was that way inclined Image

Here endeth the sermon............. Image

mr V again bang on ,the commie boys at all levels club or big matches have chosen there way very carefully and put loads of time in on them
if you think about it anglers are not getting any younger and very few new faces are coming into the sport and certainly not into natural venues where running line is used so i hate to say it its the way fishing is going like it or not
unless angling gets a big boost from farmers and land owners where we can improve the access to rivers and canals i can't see competitions lasting long on naturals
our canal is full of fish at this time of year the river is brilliant in the autumn yet the fishermen are not around choppie ,tony marshell and a few others have all tried to get thing off the ground but the biggest problem is walking and the access to parts of the river and canal how we get over it i don't know i've tried myself with some of the farmers with some success but it not enough :-/ :-/ :-/mixing up your fishing from naturals to commercials is very hard i only know a few that are really good at it .but if you enjoy your fishing you have to except the commie boys are very hard to beat Image Image

Cheers CraftyTafty Image

They are both our club matches - weve one at Swarkestone 3 weeks on Sat (we fished it last year too - but a bit later in Sept) and we've one in Sept at Shardlow - think it's the pipe section if my memory serves me well

Nobody likes a bit of banter more than me - to the annoyance of some dare I say ;) although I'd argue thats to be, or should be expected with 'club fishing - it aint exactly fisho is it........

But the more I think about it 50% of what's 'doing my head in' is the 5 yards apart and garden gnome syndrome coupled with the fact where I dont feel I'm 'with nature' if you can understand what I mean - looks like I've gotta source a few more new picturesque or 'Crabtreesque' venues (where you can expect a few bites), or revisit a few such similar venues from the past :-/

Anybody know or recommend any local mature 50 year old commies....... :D

Its them holes in the ground with mega tight pegging that are ruining match angling TK .... the farmers that own them are the only winners ;) >:( Image Image

Thats the worst, really do need some space. So do the fish I would think.

I'm not an out and out commercial anti at all, I fish them at times, but really ...  some peg spacing is ridiculous.

Not my cup of tea to see the whole pool either, seeing exactly whats going on, watching each fish caught etc. Give me a few trees and bushes around the place anyday.

Cashmores have introduced me to a few ejoyable commies though, which i'll return to.

Had just two hours on the Warwickshire Avon today, parked behind peg and plenty of bites, nice setting.

Only two hours but felt so much after it   :)

There's no 'mystery; or 'excitement at the weigh in - what a brilliant observation Image Image

The Avon Image - so picturesque, so cruel at times, but I still love it - just wish it was closer to us - it would feature a couple of times in the Cashmores calendar - shame you couldnt make our Fladbury match, sure you would have enjoyed it. I'm sure we'll be back......... ;)

Those 'traditional' sentiments, or whatever you want to call them, are shared by quite a few Bullah.

The reason why we have a waiting list of anglers wishing to join us is because they 'know' our fixture format and have expressed a desire to fish a variety of waters, including our canal and river matches that sadly some members shy from........

They dont want to just fish all commies like a good number of clubs appear to do so these days

We must be doing something right after all..........
