Cashmores match 8 2011.....floating it at Fladbury
CHAPTERS 3 - 27
I was soon set up and the gb was mixed so I sauntered upstream to have a look at those cock pegs. Interestingly there were several anglers on the opposite bank…………all up in the half dozen pegs below the weir, non down on the opposite bank by us.
Dead Peg on cock peg 1
Cotti was chuffed to be on 2
Also in that neck of the woods were Grandmaster France and Heinzer
And here’s KOD who was always gunna be a danger too, armed with the feeder
Having looked to see what a flyer looks like , my curiosity now satisfied, I wandered back ready for the off
Heinzer’s whistle, followed by Bullahs (I think) gas horn signalled the start. I wanted those topping fish to get their heads down, so I gambled and balled in a couple of babies heads in mid river.
Shipped out, first run down, a bite…………..and a 2oz dace.
Ditto put ins 2, 3 & 4
Then first boat of the day……………….and I’d lost ‘em
Regular feeding of got and seed gradually resulted in a few more bites resulting in some small roach, nothing really over the oz mark, but all were gratefully swung in.
However I thought I was getting battered from Juan Chub who was out of view downstream. With a deftness of Zorro, I could hear the swish of his rod on the cast, the wag hitting half to 3/4s across and he was having a few. News soon came that he’d lost a decent eel
Juan Chub chasing a chub or two to make up for that eel
As time progressed it was becoming a bit of a maul wielding that 12 mtrs of pole in that down streamer. :(
Half way through Juan Chub was owning up 8oz, with myself owning up to a lb………but it was probably nearer the 1lb 8oz mark. So I’d got my nose in front of him, and Bullah who reckoned he’d only got half a dozen small un’s
However news was starting to spread along the bank…………….tales that Dead Peg had had 3 chub up by the weir, plus they were all catching regularly up by the weir.
Apparently big Geoff had been seen with his landing net in a few times too
Big Geoff, without his landing net this time
And on downstream end peg, Phil B had a decent rub a dub and been seen off………and that shoal was still knocking about
The Dangerman - the one and only PhilB
With an hour and half to go a look on the inside whip lines that had been fed little and often ………first put in a 3oz dace, next put in a chunky 2oz kinver
Then on the next put in disaster………….a Bill Yards moment
Line snagged on the tree………………..resulting in the float ultimately gracing the leafy foliage.
Out with the other whip that had a differing float and shotting pattern.
There were a few fish to be had on that line…………… but another Bill Yards moment 10 mins later put paid to float no 2 in the tree to the right this time………………….those 6 mtr whips were really a touch too long for the peg
Persevering on that line though another rig was set up………….a few more bits were winkled out then a snag resulted in a pull………came free only for that rig to leave the water at speed and Bill Yards moment no 3 was complete
Sod it…………gotta feed a tad shorter and go on the 4 mtr to hand line.
Moving into the last hour I was convinced I’d got 2lb and I was now accompanied for a few minutes by Bullah the fish magnet. In fact fish magnet extraordinaire - as soon as he came behind me I had a run of bites and fish - he wondered off down to Juan Chub and they stopped
Talking of Bullah, here he is hiding in the trees upstream
There was no news of how Yamo was faring, so that spelt potential danger
Whilst Zorro (below) in the same area had had his black hydro fully tested before the beastie snagged him
Hotlips (below) was starting to have a few after a bleak first put in on the wag followed by a biteless first hour
This bloke looked like he knew what he was doing
Told ya so – fish on
Only problem was, that bonus 8oz perch came off the hook at the net
Right, as a few readers are now getting impatient, I’ll cut this report short by just adding I wheedled a few more out in that last hour on that shorter line and then it was the ‘all out’
Yamo and Zorro had draw the short straw this week and set off to weigh in - cheers guys - whilst all the talk was of whether PhilB had latched into anymore rub a dub dubs to ‘walk it’
Here’s the tale of the scales
PEG
1 DEAD PEG 2.8.0
2 COTTI 0.11.0
3 GRANDMASTER FRANCE DNW
4 KOD 1.7.0
5 HEINZER 1.10.0
6
7 BULLAH (drew 10 but fished peg 7) 0.8.0
8 TK 4.10.0
9 JUAN CHUB DNW
10
11 HOTLIPS 0.9.0
12 ZORRO 2.0.0
13 YAMO 3.0.0
14
15 BIG GEOFF 1.0.0
16
17 PHIL B 2.8.0
All in all a pleasant day - well I’d be expected to say that - wouldn’t I? Shame about the wind, but it was enjoyable seeing a ‘moving’ float again - ok, no mega weights, but that’s ‘wild fish’ fishing, isn’t it.
The venue was a credit to the host club ……….with a couple of members asking for a return visit, possibly a little later in the year , say early Sept
And one final observation, it was also pleasing to see all the members help one another - just like days of old………………..

Cashmores match 8 2011.....floating it at Fladbury
Great report TK. Well done on the win, and a few sovs in the pocket off the Golden Peg
The venue certainly looks nice, but what were the walks like from the car park?? Did we not fish there once on the ESC league? If so, I think I remembered a bit of a "coronary hill"
Great to see Phil B putting the old centre pin to good use And Cotti getting battered either side on the river.......thats unusual
