I fished that stretch quite a bit a few years back. Someone use to run regular opens there for about a year and they were quite well attended.
Back then it was good roach fishing with a few skimmers. Odd tench were also caught and but at least two of the match were won with carp and quite a few were lost. This matches were with bloodworm in, but more often than not they were won on caster. Image Image

About 25 years most of the Shakespeare super team used to fish the Thursday night opens, there were really good turns out with upto 60 anglers turning up.

I've only just started fishing again after a 30 year gap and I had a bream out there the other day on caster about 3lb ( the fish :) ) plus some nice roach.

Caught my first ever tench this weekend up by the harden rd bridge I think he was around 5lb caught him on a 4M middy whip pulled the elastic right out.

I regularly see some right monsters by the wharf stretch in the summer.

Did your club fish a match late last year on the harden rd stretch and did someone catch 30lb of roach by the school? I have tried to find the results - would love to know how they fished it.

Cheers

Yale havefished the rolling mill stretch
Thats right and the Wharf. Dont know the name of the road sorry.

I remember a funny story that one of the Yale lads (Gorgeous George) told me about a pleasure session on the wharf.

He said he was fishing away merrily and catching plenty of fish.
He hooked a fish and turned round to ship back his pole back and saw a couple making love on the wall right next to where his pole roller was Image Image
He said his jaw hit the floor and his glasses nearly fell off. He carried on fishing and left them to it Image Image

Nice place to fish hehe

Then there is Owen road... Yale had a match there and it was pee'ing down with rain and freezing cold. This young lad on a motor bike wearing only a t shirt comes along the footpath and calmly asks "Which way is it to Birmingham please mate"
Fair play to him, he pushed the bike past the anglers. Me and Drynet were in stiches. Image

There certainly are some characters whilst fishing in that neck of the woods, not including Woodhouse Image :D
