Well i'm still here, Xmas eve an' all !
After a decent run of form around the summer, on a sort of a roll
I think i buckled under the pressure after TK was biggin' me up lol.
Struggled on a couple of gruellers, but I think fished a bit better each time. Found myself having to contemplate fishing my pole at, or nearly at full length, something id never do pleasure fishing as I find it just too uncomfortable.
I think what i'd benefit from most, is something i have never got round to , which is properly watching a few good anglers. Maybe a new years resolution ? Maybe not, they dont last long do they. Maybe I should do a Nike and just do it. When the weathers better.
If theres any form of fishing i'd say i'm better at than others i'd say its fishing the stick. Thats probably why I had a good day on the Trent. I just fished the stick and nothing else all day. Didnt know much about the venue or what to expect and fished my own match, in my own little world and thoroughly enjoyed it. Just as i used to do on the Warwickshire Avon all those years ago.
Dont really know if i'm any good at it but I have had many good pleasure days with it over the years.
I find I can never get bored fishing the stick as long as theres just a few fish about. They rarely go, just move about and every trot down is different. Holding it back, even at different spots, or a few inches further out or in, a bit, or a lot shallower or deeper. there's just not enough trots to try it all and tempt another bite ! It mesmerises me.
I was just thinking tonight, about fishing in general and how there isnt enough time. Especially when you do what i do which is fish different methods/venues all the time. I'm as happy fishing a size six hook and a lump of bread paste, freelining, on a clear river (seriously lol) or a size 24 on the cut. I mean just how many weekends , or available days are there ? ..and I like to take a break from time to time !
I think it takes a good few visits/days to get anywhere near good at a venue/method and before you know it you're on either a totally different peg, or the weathers changed, or even the season and the goal posts have moved a mile.
I JUST CANT KEEP UP LOL.
