Joff/Matt,
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions.
Oh and before I forget, the post code for the Choice cafe is LE2 7QT (266 Aylestone Road)
Have spoken to a couple of other teams today and their initial thoughts are to cancel the 1st match and look to slot another one in (poss 14th Feb).
I'll get some more feedeback and we'll look to get things finalised by Thursday latest.
Thanks
Adam :)

its hard making the right decision adam but the last thing you want is bad publicity and poor results on the first match like last year on the teams of eight ounces won 15 peg sections

Dear All,
The first round of the Wigston A.S. Middy teams of four winter league on Sun 10th January is cancelled due to the canal being frozen and the ongoing bad weather.
The vast majority of teams wanted to do this and either reduce the league down to 5 matches or (preferably) add-in another date on either Sun 14th Feb or Sun 21st March subject to people’s availability.
Can team captains (see list below), please let me know if these dates are okay for their teams, so we can effectively use them as reserve dates rather than reduce the number of matches.
Devisotter Tasker
Match Catch x 2 Paul Rayner (via Tasker)
Leic Sensas x 3 Joff
Notts AA Steve Kind
Oadby Angling Pete Wootton
Team Middy Mark Roberts
Team Spro x 2 Matt Collerson
Wigston AS Blue Rob Bradshaw
Wigston AS Red Paul Taylor
Looking ahead to the 2nd scheduled match on Sunday 17th January, if we are in the same situation (i.e. Ice too thick to break) I will speak to team captains again and see what the majority want to do. If teams are available on the proposed reserve dates of 14th Feb and 21st March, then we have these as fall-back options.
Thereafter for future rounds, if the canal is frozen but the ice is deemed breakable, then we will fish the canal, so get making them ice breakers!!
Only as a last resort (ice too thick to break) will we move the match to the flowing sections of the canal at Aylestone.
As you may have realised, from the above list of teams, we are now maxed out at 13 teams of four anglers giving us a 52 pegger – not bad in theses days of declining match attendances!
Unfortunately this does mean that there will be no room for ‘made-up’ teams or individuals.
It’s a shame that we have had to cancel the 1st round, but it’s the right thing to do and hopefully we can enjoy a highly competitive league.

Dear All,
The 1st round of the Wigston A.S. Middy teams of Four Winter League has again been cancelled for this week (17th Jan) due to the canal still being frozen solid.
A couple of the lads have been down today and have really struggled to break the ice with 16lb ice breakers!!
and whilst warmer weather is planned for the weekend, all the team captains have said that they would rather use one of the spare dates than run the risk of not everyone being able to break the ice or having to move the match to Aylestone.
The revised league dates are now as follows:
Round 1: Sunday 24th Jan
Round 2: Sunday 7th Feb
Round 3: Sunday 14th Feb
Round 4: Sunday 21st Feb
Round 5: Sunday 28th Feb
Leicester Canal Champs (Ind Open) Sun 14th March
Round 6: Sunday 21st March
As previously agreed with team captains, now that both the reserve dates are being used,
all rounds will be fished..
In the event (hopefully not!) that the canal is frozen, then we will break the ice providing that it is deemed breakable. If not, then the round will be moved to the flowing section at Aylestone.
Hopefully we will get this league kicked-off soon !
Adam

Dear All,
We have seven possible sections to use on the canal (excluding the flowing sections at Aylestone) from Blaby through to Kilby Bridge.
I'll let you know exact sections for Sunday ASAP - still some ice around, so a few of the lads are going to check it out tomorrow and Thursday and let me know.
I'll have printed directions on how to get to all the sections for anyone who needs them.
More details to follow

Dear All,
Everything is looking good for the weekend and unless something drastic happens, we should be ice free on the canal.
Sections (4 x 13 pegs) are:
A Section: Kilby Bridge
B Section: Crow Mills - Countestorpe Rd, South Wigston
C Section: Manor Restaurant section - Little Glen Rd, Glen Parva
D Section: County Arms Section - Glen Parva
Draw is 8am at the Choice Cafe - 266 Aylestone Rd LE2 7QT
Breakfast available from 7am
£15 pools per man which team captains will need to collect and pay before they can draw.
Top four pay-out plus 2 in each section (sections by default)
No Bloodworm or Joker
Pike and Zander! do not count
I will have printed directions to all the sections for anyone who is not familiar with the canal.
Match results will be at the Black Horse Inn -65 Narrow Lane, Aylestone LE2 8NA (again I have printed directions for anyone who needs them).
Finally, with a number of clubs entering more than one team, could I please ask team captains to make sure that each angler knows which team they are fishing for - eg. Wigston Red or Wigston Blue so there is no confusion at the weigh-in.
Thanks and see you Sunday
Adam
