Right here goes nothing...........

At 5am on saturday morning i set off for the stafford moor silvermania festival in south devon.
The journey was'nt good due to weather but soon flew by.
Around 8am we(me and shaun gould) arrived at the draw.
Eventually got to the front and drew, peg 28 on woodpecker!
'Thats a good peg, you have a chance there' was the warm reply from andy seery(the boss) "nice, out time i drew a decent peg" i thought.
With not much time remaining the start was nearly upon us, i'd set up rigs comprising of:-
2 x 4x16 dc11 with a bulk of 8's and 3 no'10 droppers tied on 0.14 garboline mainline and 0.12 hooklenght with a size 16 808.(11 & 13 mtr lines, 6foot deep)
2x 1.0gr ds 6 with ollivetti and 3 10's droppers on same line and hooks(for 6mtr line, 8foot deep)
The match day 1
Kicked off by feeding a dozen 4mm pellets and 4 grains of corn at 13mtrs(slightly to left) also 5 balls of ringers dark containing 100ml of neat worms and 15 grains of corn at 11mtrs(to right) and 4 balls of the same with the same feed at 6mtrs.
Started off at 13 mtrs on corn, where in the first 10 minutes of the match produced a crucian about 1lb, a 2.5lb tench and 2 10oz skimmers before the interference by a 8lb carp(time to try the 11mtr line) With a head of a dendra on the hook my garbolino bazooka carp 6-10 hollow was soon stretch with increased regularity as skimmer after skimmer hit my landing net, the average size was 6-12oz with odd pounder mixed in.
By swapping between the 6 and 11 mtr lines i could catch 6-8 fish off each line before it needed topping up with around 50ml of neat worms(anymore killed it for too long) with 1.5 hrs left i had to go and borrow a spare net from the very nice northern man at the next peg as i did'nt want to go over the 50lb limit. Image
The match soon flew by and by the end i'd fed around 2/3rd's of a kilo of worms and just the initial groundbait. when the scales got to me there was a 28lb(gary o'shea) and a 33lb(giles) After 2 weights i registered 57lb 12oz to take the section and second in the match only beaten by des shipp with 58lb of mainly roach. Image
That night we shared the accomadation with the thatchers lads, dorking lads and several visiting lads from the surrounding pubs, i drank 5 pints and was 3 parts to the wind by 9pm so went to bed. Image
At 7am i woke for the final day, at the breakfast table there were several very weary anglers due to there drinking till 3am Image Image Image
At 8.30 the draw took place, i was 10th out of the 16 finalists to draw and picked out peg 11 which did'nt bring too much of a reaction from those in the know.
Andy said it was ok but he felt the early numbers on the 'lawns' would take sum stopping. :-/ :-[ :-?
Undeterred i set up exactly the same rigs as day 1, in addition i set up a 1.25gr version due to the wind Image i had decided to do exactly what i had done the day before minus the pellet and corn line. 2 lines at 6 and 13mtrs were the order of the day.
At the start i fed the same as day 1 but started at 6mtrs where instantly i was into bites from roach around 3oz before my first skimmer of the day was joined by 10 of his mates, At the end of the first hour i'd had a cruician of 1lb and a tench of 1.5lb to go with my skimmers.  Image
Over the next four hours i kept topping up and resting the line to nick a few fish long, then to come back and recieve runs of skimmers which i cud catch very quick at 6mtrs. Again the average size was 4-10oz with odd bigger fish upto a pound.
Des on peg 13 had started to catch really well after a slow start along with several others on the lawns and across the lake, after a chat with will bonnie who was running the bank i got my head down and try to keep putting fish in the net, which i managed to do until the finish.

The weigh in was difficult to see as the scales came down the far bank
i put my kit away thinking " i've done ok but had i done enough"  Image Image
I had nearly finished when the scales reach des, with 27lb to beat des puts 30lb exactly on the scales!!! "o my god have i got that??" i pulled my net out and boy was it going to be close, the scales swung round and settled at 34lb 4ozs. :o :o :o
the rest of the weigh in was a blurr with weights of near 30lb coming out. with one to weight i was still leading... the lad on peg 1 had 7lb odd which meant i had done it Image Image after several photos and handshakes of congratulations i popped the champagne and sprayed half of it over whoever was in the way Image Image
After gathering up my kit and loading it in to the car for the long journey home we said our goodbyes and left my first visit to stafford moor, extremely happy and £2000 richer. Image Image
A big thank you to Andy seery, shaun gould and all the lads who made this weekend a fantastic festival. Image

A special thank you to lisa for being a understanding wife and putting up with me!! Image Image Image

Diddy...good write up.

On the first day how much did you refeed with and how many times did you refeed before making the decision that only 50ml was right?
