I heard today that nothing has been finalised yet. The Cudmoor rumour is still a rumour, and that the smart money is on teams of 10 on the Nene in September. Personally I think that would be a better suggestion. I think that teams of 6 would kill the competition.

teams of 6!!! crap. that would make it even worse....
keep it on the nene. it's a proper venue which takes loads of stick and still produces bites(been hard this year, first time since its been there)
cudmore would be a joke of a choice imo.
but wotever happens the big teams will still get it sorted and the results would be very similar!!
rant over.

I think if people are looking at ways to make it a leveller then it will never work, the best teams will be the best however you do it. Lets get the big finals at the right time of year and make them the spectacle they should be, top anglers showing how its done

What do you recomend Bill, semis in feb final in march meaning less time for teams to practice, meaning less pressure on final.Surely a Winter League final should be in the winter?

don't think it'll matter wen or where you have it.
the best option is to introduce the cips rules.
then everyone will be on a level playing field, with ability and skill leading over teams with mountains of bait.

I know it fished terrible mate but i was gutted not to have qualified, only thing i would change is time of year match is held, i think lesser teams would get less disheartned if they were catching more fish. i think cips rules may help as it would cut cost down, i think some anglers do go overboard with bait.
AT winter league final 2009
and so was i wen i missed out twice with essex.
like i have said before its like the fa cup of match fishing. changing it to a commercial would relagate it to ldv vans trophy.
would spell the end of proper all rounders(i'm in this group) a massive affect on the england team present and future and also anglers who just can't stand catching carp etc.
god i'm on one tonight.

I have read some interesting ideas on this thread and they are all well meaning.
Taking the thing back to basics; firstly a top class organiser or team of organisers is needed to run the thing in the first place.
Whether Ken or someone else (possibly a small team) does it is crucial as it is they that see all the problems, there is more to running a match than putting numbers on the ground. Suitable venues (they are not all suitable, read on) have to be booked, accesses sorted, suitable accomodation found; a place and permission for the tackle show; draw headquarters and much, much more. It might be a good idea to ask for the future organiser(s), whoever it/they may be, input on this if it is at all possible.

surely people are missing another huge point here . as it stands at the minute local angling clubs (non profit making) organisations (usually) gain from the support of a/t by allowing them to have the final . if the final gets moved to a ditch only one person stands to gain and that is the owner , what is it they charge per peg in on average £7.50 ? absolutely ridiculous ! real value for money eh NOT. i say support angling clubs NOT INDIVIDUAL business men .

If this is the case with the final moving to a commercial why were the league organisers/ squad captains not consulted?
I really cant understand why they would want to move it off a river...
I'm sure if you were to ask ALL the finalists from the last five years you would struggle to find many teams that would want it moved to a commercial.
The AT winter league has always been run by the captains of the teams involved with Ken Wade having the final say in any disputes and in my opinion thats the way it should stay.
its a angling times competition and i think they have the final say and if the tackle show has already moved up there i can only think of one reason MONEY and not for what the competition stands for
i don't think angling times needs the hassle of match fishermen bye the way they have introduced the clubman competition that now gets a bigger coverage than the winter league final and like we have said 95% of readers are pleasure or club anglers so why listen to the die hard match angler that moans at everything under the sun
remember when a club books a commercial it every peg and do they moan the answer is no if you fish a open match on a commercial and its not every other peg do we moan answer yes

all for one and one for all .there can be no final with out . teams. most anglers who fish the final on the nene or trent steps will tell you what agreat day it is and the lead up and practice. it as it's own buzz and feel about it .if you miss out in the semi's your gutted .fishing the natural venues is an art it's up to us to pass these skills on to the young anglers that are with our teams but if we keep going on crappity smack carp holes these skills will be lost. whats the use in having sites like this if we dont use them to our advantage. let ken no were not very happy about it and let him no it will be abig mistake as for 6 anglers that would kill it.
