strongest team there
we had to be to hold the rest above us
the top three teams made every other team look average and thats hard to swollow on day 1 dorking and starlets took every section win no other team won a section we got it all wrong from the start day one and at that level there is no coming back still thats fishing
trentmen were that pi##ed off about there result at they headed to the center of birmingham on saturday night the taxi cost £35
but they had a cracking time bye the way they looked on sunday
i think the day has come we have seen the first 3 almost professional teams
but at what price
spending a whole week on the venue
bait
hotels
food
drink

peg 35 on the island the short side the same peg was last in the section the day before and that was a barnsley angler
with 2lb i had dorking and trentmen to the right and north west shakespeare saints irish on 30 [godfreys peg from the day before thats another story
]starlets bristol and barnsley i managed 6lb for 6 points
starlets won the section 18lb irish 2nd 17lb bristol 3rd 16lb barnsley 4th 11lb 5th dorking 9lb leicester 6lb north west 4lb trentmen 4lb shakespeare 3lb saints 1lb not good at our end i had 5 skimmers all day dorking had 7 skimmers
first day i was on 63 the day before 69lb came off it half carp and half skimmers i d.n.w
it was bigger headlines than winning the match when i finally got back to the club after trying to hang myself from the nearest tree
and that was after anglers were shouting across the lake
:(
still thats fishing but on the bright side the second day a very good skakespeare angler only had 2 skimmers for 8 points our peg must of been bad on day one as shakespeare only managed joint 9th with us and 4 of our anglers just fished method to try and get some money back
and as for luck two of them lost big carp witch would of won the sections
roll on the next match
:-/great

do you think the venue is fitting of a major final joff? or does it really matter when you look at the state of some of the leagues to get there, the south has four teams and only two matches in the league, with two qualifying and the other two in fish off.

i love the venue but the number of anglers is too much for the venue i think one or two things will have to change for the next one as for a major finals the one thing it has in its favour is its bang in the middle of the country so its just as far for northern teams as southern and we are the lucky ones living here witch is why you have to take your hat off to dorking and barnsley for there professional approach and practice out of the three big teams starlets would of come out better off with no hotel bills or traveling
if the NFA got there fingers out another venue i would like to see used is holme pierrpont its solid but because there are no big matches on there as soon as you put on the fish disappear this venue should become our national venue
the southern super league still is 4 matches just that it is over two weekends i dont think anything is wrong with that if they have to travel long distances what i can't understand is the lack of interest from other teams in fishing super leagues yet take the other option of fishing the division 1 leagues instead yet the big teams can't join them
all the teams that took part in this weekends final are no mugs but i feel most were out of there comfort zone with the lack of practice and the only result we could look for was 4th
now the winter league final might be different as its a river and anything can happen i don't think it will as dorking and barnsley will approach it in the same way with a whole week of practice

I think it comes down to cost and the fact that the weaker squads can no longer compete.

yes but if you are winning the division 1 most years it could be classed as a easier way too the final don't you think plus your getting to fish bigger matches i'm not happy that we only have 4 teams in our super league and loads of traveling and realistic only fishing for 4th in the final :( plus surely if you win a division you should go up to the next level

Why should a team move from a 40 peg league with venues on our doorstep to a 40 peg league where we have to travel 100's of miles?

point
so i should change my summer league into a drennan league then and that would save on traveling then
but what would happen to barnsley and mark one
if the winners did move up it would give another team a chance to win its like a first division football team winning the league with record points and then saying no to the priemership as they can win week in and week out

Personally i cant see the point of throwing your own money and taking time off work for a final like the Drennan. The likes of Will Raison, Alan scotthorn etc are full time professional anglers with big backing ...full credit to them they deserve it, they are two of the very best in the world !!
Would a part time footballer playing in the Blue Square conference take a week off work and pay his own way to play against Christiano Ronaldo and John Terry ?? no chance !!
For me its just another example of how unbalanced team match fishing is ........whatever happened to a level playing field in our sport ?

What other sport could you compete next to a 5 times world champ? I personally love competing against the best win or lose but the amount of people that are prepared to travel to do it are dwindling fast. with the price of fuel(even though i think it had started before fuel went up) most venues charging £8 peg fee alot of anglers are now going where they think they can pick some coin up and sticking to one venue, if some really top anglers who used to have their fair share of results at the highest level are doing it you can understand why anglers who win less would go and try to perfect one venue. Its a shame but i think it will get worse before it gets better.

I beat them both and Jean desque when they drew around me in my section last year on the sensas challenge on the stainy Lloydy
and i know you won a medal there too mate
..........but thats not my point !
It is brilliant to draw next to and fish against these anglers but for me the cost cannot justify the time and effort these days :(

I know what you mean mate most weekends cost £100 if you dont win. I've heard joker could go to £25 a kilo this year if it does thats me finished mate. Have you been on bridgy lately your posts on here have not been to positive, no fish, broken into cars, cant wait.

Perhaps they why team fishing is changing...
It's easier for you to beat Will and Alan then it is for your team to beat Dorking or Barnsley over a ten man side.
The smaller team matches ( pairs, 3 and 5 a side) seem to be getting more popular because ANY team can be beaten by a bad draw so the occasional winners are still in with a shout.
