Notice from last years photo that cut was really coloured. was the colour due to shed load of rain we received around then.....rather then the summer time boat traffic ?

Thats was from a deluge of rain water Pedro a day or so before...... although the two cuts are linked, they do differ and the W & E carries a lot more weed growth, coupled with less boat traffic (usually), does sometimes go clear on us....hence the 'late' decision on what section we fish
having said that, there has been steady colour in the W & E over the last month or so

Last year was the first time on the Cannock Extension Pedro.
There's a few pictures of the W & E canal (about a mile away) where we fished the championship the first couple of years on this link

just on the reed beds after the bridge by the dirt track where you park the common bit, yea there must been 20 boats the most I have ever seen on there in my life, there was a few moored up as well one was talking to me said that every year there a 48 hour race to get as many checkpoints as you can, because he wasn't impressed with how some off them was travelling up and down to fast he made him self pretty clear to some the barges gave a them a mouthful

I can confirm that the extra boat traffic experienced was indeed the 24 [not 48] hour BCN Challenge where boaters are invited to amass points by covering as much of the BCN as possible in 24 hours with points awarded for number of miles, locks, abandoned arms, solving clues etc. Its a very grueling event and I can understand the reluctance for some boaters not to slow down past fishermen although of course, they should!
This event is not just about a bit of fun for boaters but has been deliberately organized to make sure that the "authorities" know that the very much normally underused BCN is at least used once a year. Events like this and the now bi annual Pelsall Canal Festival [15-16th June] and the annual Brownhills Canal festival [23rd June] together with a couple of "Explorer" cruises, also in June, help to make sure that our local canals remain navigable [and therefore fish-able] for now and future generations. Without such activities these canals would have been filled in long ago.

Fully understand MGB
Just wished we saw a few more boats down our sections, more regularly
Having said that, over the last few weeks for some reason which escapes me I have noted a few more boats in the area
