WELCOME TO A GRUELLER
not sure whether TK and the boys had thought about booking our canal for one of this series ,or was TK visiting someone in loughborough over the weekend .this match was a shocker with the canal and river both really coloured we have got to start asking the question !!what are they putting in our rivers what ever it is has had a effect on our sport over the last few floods ,it might not be harmful to fish but something is killing the sport .the river is still tea colour which flows into the canal normally the canal is the place to be .ok the weather didn't help but that s a easy answer coloured and frozen well the two don't really go together on our canal. still almost everyone turned up and from the looks on there faces know it was going to be difficult to say the least
the draw was made the same fliers were talked about here there and everywhere ,so i thought i'd get rob wootton to draw my peg he's got to be better at it than me ;)he had drawn a half decent area himself so i was ready 207 209 196 198 all still in the bag well nothing changed rob pulled out 205 can have fish on it normally bread fish in clear water ,but hay-howe it was B/J you always catch a few famous last words
as i walked to my peg dave petch was walking towards me "just going to get my ice breaker its frozen"i never thought about it once as out side the boat and most other areas had no ice
as Dave walked back I'd reached my peg yes frozen not thick but frozen he laughed and said to one of his team mates i wonder who's on the tree's would it joff or scotty both are walking that way .again he laughed and shook his head it said it all
never mind its a day out should catch one or two ,suns out and if i throw some bread for the swans they will break my ice what a good idea until about 10 came flying in well that's the end of my ice but how do i get the swans to go i thought eginoire them and tackle up they will soon realise i have no more food at this point i got my pole out rigs and started setting them up when suddenly a swan thought the tipp ex on my pole was a piece of bread and tried to grab it NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the next minute i had a hole in my No6 section Nick moss was next peg in stitches having never seen anything like it before
so i cut my No6 in half and started again
by this time the swan's had made off down stream
normal rigs were used just all brand new shotted perfect ,bait sorted i knew i wasn't going to feed a lot and one side i leamed 100ml and the other i put 150 ml neat
i sat and sat and sat there plan z had been used 3 or 4 times i'd ran out of rigs even tried at the bottom of my keepnet this was grim and the same for most scotty was the first to catch Sid and Nick also had a couple of fish .little old me had not had a bite i wasn't going to give up i will catch :-?one way or the other i lowered my rig in and it went straight down yes a roach at last !!there here i couldn't wait to get back in it never moved again until the last hour when i had two more
at three the white flag had gone up as pete scott slipped a pound roach into the net talk about mymojo be down i don't care if i never see the canal river or lake again
even so the match was won by rob jones who had a brilliant weight of 4lb on what i can only say thehardest canal ive fished 2nd Ant king 3lb he's having a really good run this year 3rd steve woollard 2lb 12oz and richie reynolds 2lb11oz
well done to all the anglers for turning up i hope its better next time

one thing that comes from matches like this is the chats afterwards our table can be up 10 or 12 of us and the amount you can pickup that you have perhaps forgotten to do is amazing
mark godfrey comes out with some class ones though him and scotty are like the two ronnies
its easy to pack up the hardest bit is sitting there trying to catch fish we can all catch fish off good pegs its the hard pegs that get you your points

We fished summat similar the day earlier Joffie - only the swans couldnt break our ice as it was 3/4 to 1 inch thick - and dead coloured underneath

Lee I think we are a few anglers missing this weekend as well I when yesterday to fish the greens and never got my kit out even struggled to get to the river bank plus I never even saw a bleak top tea colour and racing through
