Heavy rain renders England’s practice useless.
After almost two weeks spent at the venue practicing, heavy rain has rendered Drennan Team England’s careful preparation useless. The hills feeding the River Morava, where the championship is set to take place have received prolonged and heavy rainfall, changing the usually docile river into a raging torrent.

Team member, Des Shipp said: “We might as well forget about information gleaned in practice up to now, when light floats and whips were order of the day. On a low river, the key to good results was catching bleak, but with the extra water in the system hardly any have been caught in todays practice - when 30g flat floats have been needed to hold bottom.”

Worryingly, it seems that worst may be yet to come, as sources suggest that the flow will increase from the 60 cubic metres of water that the river is carrying today, to over 300 tommorow. I am worried that even the mammoth 50g flat floats that I have tied up may not be heavy enough! To make matters worse, the temperature has dropped dramatically too, from 23 degrees centigrade earlier in the week, down to just nine degrees today.

As is normally the case when conditions change, it is going to come down to each individual angler to work out how best to cope with the conditions that they are faced with on the day.”

TEAM FOR THE FIRST DAY
1 WIL RAISIN
2 STEVE GARDENER
3 STU CONROY
4 SEAN ASHBY
5 DES SHIPP
Alan is sitting out of the first day, the conditions are better than first thought yet not long pole fish have been caught all bleak weights Sean was the top weight today with 2kg something but england's sector was a faster length today the french in the next sector had a kg a man more than England in the steadier water still 2kg in 4hours of bleak ain't bad fishing Image

Unofficial results suggest that Serbia have taken the lead in this years World Championship with 19 penalty points. England look to be sitting in 6th place, some 10 points behind the leaders. Star performance on the day came from Derby ace, Sean Ashby, with a staggering 537 bleak for 6.289 kg. He told Match Fishing, "I'm obviously delighted with todays result, but more importantly, the team is still in the hunt for a medal. I am a big believer in the saying that you can't win a World Championship on the first day, but you can loose one, and we still have everything to play for tommorow."

Other notable performances include Steve Gardener, who came 2nd in the section with a weight of 4.788kg. Steve caught some bleak early, and added a couple of bonus 700g skimmers in the last twenty minutes. The team going in to tommorow's match is yet to be confirmed, but it has been suggested that Alan Scotthorne might replace Stu Conroy, who struggled from a difficult area of A section today.

England's Performance

A Stu Conroy 12pts
B Will Raison 5pts
C Steve Gardener 2pts
D Sean Ashby 1pt
E Des Shipp 9pts

Unofficial Results

1 Serbia 19pts
2 Poland 23pts
3 France 24pts
4 Germany 25pts
5 Slovakia 29pts
6 England 29pts
