Just have to face facts.

When you look at these performances, where does that actually rate the Premiership?

England's best players, - at best are ordinary Image Image Image Image

We all talk about Messi's five goals for Barca last week.

However, what about the team performance; aguably the best I have ever seen by some way.
Even 1966 which I well remember? ::) ::) ::)

In essence Barca play a very simple game - they always play the easy pass - and there is always someone to receive it. You don't have to be world class to play that way - but it is a huge advantage if you are. Because they want to play the easy pass they play it very early, in contrast most players waste time by looking for other options and their passing is ponderous by comparison. When you watch them play they only really have one man who is allowed to run with the ball - Messi, although in the game where he scored 5 they were so dominant that Iniesta also started to take a dribble or two. But one of the key things is that they also prevent other teams from playing the same game by a ferocious work rate, closing down and hassling and harrying, forcing the opposition into mistakes. The nearest man to the player with the ball goes to him, they don't pass on the responsibility to someone else. This means they actually defend from the front. It's very simple, defenders don't tend to be the best ball players, so they are easier to force into mistakes or the default of a long hoof up the pitch. If you can get at them, Barca's comparative weakness is their defence, but they can cope with long hopeful punts up the pitch all day long. Of English clubs, Arsenal probably play the closest in style, but they don't close down the opposition as fast as Barca. Utd v Bilboa - if Bilboa had half decent strikers it would have been a cricket score!

english players are overated and overpaid imo, the prem aint the best league in the world.. the euros are, and last night you saw for yourselves!! i recall rooney threatening to leave utd a while back because of the lack of commitment from the club and team mates, but a wage rise put an end to that!! so what now rooney? have you got the balls to leave and take a wage cut for a champs or euro trophy? i doubt it m8!! its all about the money and not the winning with the prem! personally i dont give a dam about english footy, or the teams, euro is where its at, i'm looking forward to the next rounds.. where fantastic football and proper good players play the game with flair and skill.

You go back to Brian Clough, who had a big sign up saying 'the biggest crime in football is to give the ball away'. He was right. Short, easy passes are key, and to be honest any pro footballer should be capable of making them - what they can't make is the decision to play them. OK, some of those raking 60 yard passes look great, but they usually fail on two counts. First, the ball is in the air for a very long time, allowing the defence to get into position. Second, the guy receiving the ball has to bring it down and control it, and even with the best touch in the world it won't be as easy as a short pass to feet.
Barca obviously have a very, very good team, but it's their twelfth man, on the pitch perfectly legally, who does most of the running and is their key player. His name? Mr. BALL!

We are all saying the same thing here; maybe in slightly different ways.

If Barca or Bilbao played England you would probably need a crib board to keep the score Image Image Image Image

Stoke City know very well what a decent Europa League it is this season bill  Image Image  quality sides like Bilbao and Valencia etc arent going for league titles (Barca & Madrid too good !) so throw all their resources at europe  ;) Bilbao rely heavily on forward Lorente who is top top class , however Lorente is now injured and his understudy (little bald bloke) stats are shocking to say the least ....17 goals in 120 games !  Image still better than Torres though !  Image Image Image :D

A distant trip to darkest Russia somewhere avoided by City in the quater finals  Image followed by Bilbao in the semis  Image

Ps we cant even beat Swansea anyway !  Image Image

RE the Premier League

Spurs were supposedly "THE BEST THING" since sliced bread a fortnight ago ...... how thing have changed ! 3 straight defeats ( 2 hammerings) and now not even certain of champions league football. Football is all about ups and downs no matter how big / small , good or bad the team you follow is  Image
