MILO FESTIVAL first day
Milo Festival
It is the final big spring festival of the year already and the last few weeks have seemed to have flown by. This is always one of the most popular festivals and fills the first – partly due to it being slightly late so the anglers are hoping for better weather – but unfortunately I don't think they will be in with a great amount of luck this year!
This week the lakes we are using are Pollawyn, Trelawney/Twin Oaks, Trewaters/Canal/Acorn, Porth & Bolingey. For the anglers that have already fished a festival so far or have been following the previous festivals results they have a good idea of form on most of the lakes it is just Canal and Acorn that could throw up some surprises this week as they have not been used in a festival yet this year.
The weather over the weekend has mainly been a continuation from last week with bitter mornings and heavy showers throughout the day; it had been forecast to get slightly better throughout the week so we shall just have to keep our fingers crossed. Even though the weather was bad last week there were still some top results so we will be hoping for that again this week as the majority of lakes have still been fishing well.
The anglers are all aware of their rotation prior to arrival, for some who fished last week they are took a bit of time out but the anglers that just arrived at the weekend were keen to get out and practise and everyone was keen to meet up in the bar catching up with old friends and making new ones.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Milo for sponsoring the festival and read on for all the action from day one!
Day One
The draw for the first day of the festival always takes a bit longer so all the anglers are grouped into the club at 9am to go through the rules and format of the festival. After a slightly disappointing end to last weeks presentation we have introduced a new rule that was explained to everyone this morning – if anyone is not there for the presentation and has won money, if they do not let us know they will not be there to collect it we will donate their winnings to the Children's Hospice South West, as last week we read out loads of names that had gone home without letting us know, a new rule on the mystery weight winner is that they have to be at the presentation for them to be able to claim their prize. All the anglers agreed this was a great idea so with everything put in place it was time for the off and the first dip of the week in to the bag of dreams.
A Section Pollawyn
It was a good start to the week on Pollawyn with plenty of carp showing, anglers that managed a bonus one or two fish faired slightly better in the sections but there were also plenty of good bags of silvers. It was reasonable close across the sections and even on the weaker pegs where the anglers sometimes struggle there were some better weights. Tony Curd on peg 27 took the lake win today, Tony caught on the pellet waggler for a weight of 120lb 5oz. Second went to Mark Gallagher who weighed in with 111lb 5oz, Mark was on peg 15 and caught on the pellet waggler and the bomb. John Whincup was on peg 26 and weighed in with 78lb to take third, John caught on the pellet waggler. The next best weight on the lake was 66lb 4oz and this came from Colin Dumpy on peg 18.
Section Winners
Tony Curd peg 27 9 points 120lb 5oz
Mark Gallagher peg 15 9 points 111lb 5oz
Ky Faulkner peg 15 9 points 63lb 13oz
Richard Wyatt peg 6 9 points 45lb 14oz
B Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
It was a mixed day on both of the lakes with good and bad results across all four sections; they are still fishing well though generally seeing as they have had a lot of pressure recently. The lake winner today was John Harvey; John was on Twin Oaks peg 18 and caught on the method and down the edge for a weight of 163lb 11oz. Second was Rob Wootton with 128lb, Rob was on Trelawney peg 28 and caught in the margins on worm. Third on Trelawney peg 6 was Des Shipp, Des caught on the method to start and then caught F1's down the edge on worms and caster for a total weight of 120lb 7oz. The next best weight came from Mal Proctor on Twin Oaks peg 27, Mal caught on the method feeder for a weight of 107lb 2oz.
Section Winners
John Harvey peg 18(TO) 9 points 163lb 11oz
Rob Wootton peg 28(T) 9 points 128lb
Des Shipp peg 6(T) 9 points 120lb 3oz
Mal Proctor peg 27(TO) 9 points 107lb 2oz
C Section Trewaters/Canal/Acorn
This section is a bit of an unknown at the moment, Trewaters has been fishing ok although the weights have suffered a bit because of the wind hampering presentation but Acorn and Canal could throw up some surprises this week which is what we have already seen today. Timmy Rowe was today's winner; Timmy was on Acorn peg 13 and caught short of meat for a weight of 157lb 6oz. Second went to Steve Homewood with a weight of 141lb 5oz, Steve was on Canal peg 6 and caught on the short pole with paste. Tony Wynnick was on Acorn peg 19 and had a weight of 105lb 13oz to take third, Tony caught down the edge on meat. The next best weight and also the best weight on Trewaters was 88lb 14oz and this came from Jamie Wilde on peg 23, Jamie caught on the method with meat.
Section Winners
Timmy Rowe peg 13(A) 9 points 157lb 6oz
Steve Homewood peg 6( C ) 9 points 141lb 5oz
Jamie Wilde peg 23(T) 9 points 88lb 14oz
Martin Holmes peg 53(T) 9 points 69lb 12oz
D Section Porth
Although still fishing hard and with some anglers also having lots of problems with pike the weights were a bit better today with anglers fishing for bits to build up a good net rather than holding out for the better bream. The lake winner today was Simon Colclough, Simon was on peg 72 and caught 183 fish at 5/6 meters out on maggot with his catch made up of roach, skimmers and perch for a total weight of 21lb 3oz. Kieron Rich was second weight a weight of 12lb 3oz, Kieron was on peg 88 and caught skimmers at 13 meters with casters and worm. Third was Steve Bestall on peg 77, Steve caught at 13 meters on chopped worm for a weight of 9lb 11oz. Lee Werrett was on peg 85 and had the next best weight of 8lb 7oz, Lee caught on maggot over groundbait.
Section Winners
Simon Colclough peg 72 9 points 21lb 3oz
Kieron Rich peg 88 9 points 12lb 3oz
Colin Mulholland peg 32 9 points 7lb 10oz
Darren Cox peg 23 9 points 7lb 4oz
E Section Bolingey
There has been a lot of cold water going into Bolingey recently which always has a knock on affect and it was probably flushed through at the weekend before the start of this festival as meat has been used down there which they do not usually allow. Although the overall weights were not as high there were still plenty of good 90lb plus weights and it was close across the sections for points. The lake winner today with 107lb was Shaun Barnett on peg 16, Shaun caught on the method, at 5 metres and shallow to take the win. Craig Jones on peg 18 was second with 96lb 14oz; Craig caught 17 fish on the method to the island. Third with 96lb 5oz was Derek Hammond, Derek caught long down the edge on pellet from peg 27. The next best weight was 93lb 4oz from Rick Dennis on peg 17, Rick caught on the method with pellet and at 5 meters on meat.
Section Winners
Shaun Barnett peg 16 9 points 107lb
Harry Billing peg 29 9 points 92lb 9oz
Simon Fry peg 15 9 points 91lb 10oz
Jon Parks peg 7 9 points 74lb 12oz
Here is how the action from today has formed the first top twenty on the festival

1st John Harvey 9 points 163lb 11oz
2nd Timmy Rowe 9 points 157lb 6oz

For these anglers they have got off to a great start with a section win but there are a lot of good back up weights that also have high points so we could see another close festival.

MILO FESTIVAL first day
Day Two
After another wet evening it was a pleasant surprise to wake up to blue skies – but will it last?
There were some promising results on day one despite the weather and with the wind and rain calmed down slightly we are hoping for another good day.
Nothing to say at the draw this morning so it was off to a quick start with the anglers keen to get to their pegs and set up whist it was still dry.
Read on for the latest catch updates and to see if anyone has bagged a second section win.
A Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
It was more of a struggle for some today with the lakes not fishing quite as well, the weights were down across all the section but even though they were down it was still close on points. The lake win today went to Ian Chestney on Twin Oaks peg 16, Ian caught on the method feeder and the short pole in the margins with meat for a weight of 130lb 11oz. Alan Crouch on Trelawney peg 32 weighed in with 92lb 4oz to take second, Alan caught across to the island on meat and corn and on pellet in open water. Third with 91lb 7oz was Robin Payne, Robin caught on maggot over pellet on the feeder and long on the pole with 8 mil pellet from Twin oaks peg 18. Tony Curd was on Trelawney peg 29 and had the next best weight with 78lb, Tony caught shallow on the long pole with pellet and also caught F1's short on the deck.
Section Winners
Ian Chestney peg 16 9 points 130lb 11oz
Alan Crouch peg 32 9 points 92lb 4oz
Terry Winter peg 21 9 points 65lb 9oz
Adam Wakelin peg 10 9 points 53lb 15oz
B Section Trewaters/Canal/Acorn
The weights were slightly down on Trewaters with the fish getting out of the wind but there are still good weights on Canal and Acorn, the top weights on Acorn are great where as some of the back up weights are lower and Canal s producing good weights with close back up results. Mal Proctor was the winner today; Mal caught on the method and down the edge from Acorn peg 13 for an overall weight of 118lb 15oz.

MILO FESTIVAL first day
Milo Festival
Day Four
Another night of heavy rain in Cornwall, Clint is going to seek permission from the EA so that every one that comes from a drought area can take a bucket of water home with them! If this carries on we might just have one big lake!
It is another make or break day today for the anglers today as if we once again see a shift in the top 20 with points won and lost across the pack it will give us a clearer picture as to whom the front runners are going in to the final day.
The anglers escaped most of the rain today with it falling over night, there were a few showers throughout the match but the biggest downpour came 30 seconds after the "all out" so it was a fun weigh in!
A Section Porth
Hard day again today with the anglers having to make the choice between holding out for the bream or targeting the smaller fish. Two of the sections fished slightly better today with more consistent weights but the other two were fairly hard with low weights and only the end peg getting a few fish. Adam Wakelin was the lake winner today, Adam was on peg 36 and caught on the groundbait feeder with worms for a weight of 12lb 13oz. Steve Richards weighed in with 12lb 6oz to take second, Steve was on peg 89 and caught on the open ended feeder with boilie. Third with 11lb 1oz was Warren Loosemore on peg 40, Warren caught on the cage feeder with worm. The next best weight on the lake was 10lb 5oz and this came from John Whincup, John caught on the short pole with maggot from peg 21.
Section Winners
Adam Wakelin peg 36 9 points 12lb 13oz
Steve Richards peg 89 9 points 12lb 6oz
John Whincup peg 21 9 points 10lb 5oz
Ky Faulkner peg 79 9 points 6lb 4oz
B Section Bolingey
There were no outstanding weights today but they were close across the sections for good backup weights with just one or two anglers struggling, it is not quantity of fish being caught at the moment but quality as the stamp just seems to be getting bigger and they are fighting hard. The lake winner today on peg 45 was Danny Grimsey, Danny caught at 14.5 meters on expanders and at 7 meters on meat for a total weight of 93lb 12oz. Paul Hills on peg 46 weighed in with 90lb 4oz to take second, Paul caught on the method and the long pole. Nathan Watson was third; Nathan was on peg 10 and weighed in with 84lb 14oz. The next best weight on the lake was 78lb 14oz and this came from Steve Nicholson on peg 6, Steve caught at 13 & 5 meters on meat and down the edge on groundbait.
Section Winners
Danny Grimsey peg 45 9 points 93lb 12oz
Paul Hills peg 46 9 points 90lb 4oz
Nathan Watson peg 10 9 points 84lb 14oz
Eddie Green peg 41 9 points 78lb 6oz
C Section Pollawyn
With the cold water that has been going in to the lake this is making the fish shoal up slightly with those anglers drawing on the pegs landing a few fish but other struggling to get those few bonus fish. There were lots of silvers caught across the lake with a number of the anglers drawing on the pockets of barbel which helped their weight, those that did land a few carp, especially on the high bank, had bigger fish. The match winner today with 131lb 4oz was James Cooper, James caught on the bomb and waggler with pellet from peg 28. Charlie Mayers on peg 31 was second, Charlie caught on the pellet feeder, pellet waggler and bomb for a weight of 79lb 3oz. Mark Hayes weighed in with 61lb 3oz to take third, Mark was on peg 27 and caught on the straight lead with 11 mil pellet, the feeder over his pole line with meat and at 14.5 meters on meat. The next best weight was 53lb 7oz and this came from James Stones on peg 13, James caught on the long pole with meat and down the edge on meat.
Section Winners
James Cooper peg 28 9 points 131lb 4oz
Charlie Mayers peg 31 9 points 79lb 3oz
James Stones peg 13 9 points 53lb 7oz
Alan Rutherford peg 45 9 points 47lb 14oz
D Section Twin Oaks/Trelawney
Trelawney was a bit slower today and in a vast difference to the autumn festivals last year where the lake was drastically short of water – now every peg is under water! The weights were down but it was the closest day so far for section points with only a couple of pounds separating the weights in places. High Twin Oaks had lower weights but they were consistent across the pegs where as the low numbers threw up some top weights and even though the back up weights were not brilliant they were tight for points. Winning the lake with the biggest weight of the festival so far this week was Darren Cox, Darren weighted in with 174lb 7oz which he caught on the pellet waggler with 8 mil pellets from Twin Oaks peg 14. Second was Paul Holland with 137lb, Paul was on peg 6 and had an impressive 90lbs of silvers amongst his catch which was caught on the feeder and the short pole. Simon Colclough on Twin Oaks peg 16 weighed in with 134lb 12oz, Simon caught at 5 meters on meat and the pellet waggler. The next best weight came from Kieron Rich on Twin Oaks peg 19, Kieron caught on micros and expanders at 6 meters for a weight of 78lb 13oz. The best weight on Trelawney was 72lb 8oz and this came from Lee Werrett on peg 25.
Section Winners
Darren Cox(TO) peg 14 9 points 174lb 7oz
Kieron Rich(TO) peg 19 9 points 78lb 13oz
Lee Werrett(T) peg 25 9 points 72lb 8oz
Steve Warner(T) peg 8 9 points 58lb 3oz
E Section Trewaters/Canal/Acorn
The middle lake at Trewaters fished better today but it was still lower weights on the bottom lake, Acorn once again was the stand out lake in the section producing the lake winning weights but Canal is also fishing well with the anglers getting pleanty of bites. Callum Dicks was todayss lake winner, Callum caught shallow on pellet and short on meat from Acorn peg 7 for a weight of 120lb. Second with 194lb was Colin England, Colin was on Acorn peg 13 and caught at 5 meters on meat and down the edge with worms over groundbait. Matthew Marshall weighed in with 88lb 13oz to take third; Matthew caught on the pole at 5 metres with meat and down the edge on worms from Acorn peg 15. The next best weight and the best weight on Canal was 81lb 12oz and this came from Derek Hammond on peg 2, Derek caught on the long pole with pellets and down the edge on worm. The best weight on Trewaters was 60lb 7oz and this came from Simon Fry on peg 21.

19th Andy Neale 29 points 283lb 2oz
20th Des Shipp 29 points 268lb 7oz
With another section win today Darren has kept hold of his top spot with a point ahead of the chasing pack, as you can see these results are incredibly close and the final day will be a nail biter.
Who knows what the day will bring us tomorrow, more heavy rain is forecast but we have been lucky with the majority of it falling over night, on some of the lakes this cold water going in is making it harder but others are still fishing well and at least it means the anglers remain semi-dry for most of the match!
Things could all change tomorrow when the dropped result comes in to play, there are some that definitely need another section win to secure them a top ten finish while others can just about afford a slightly off day.

Well what a high scoring festival! Two anglers finishing on maximum points but with the better dropped result Darren takes the festival victory, Darren has a good track record on this festival as since taking the Milo festival winners spot in 2007 he has come 2nd in 2009, 6th in 2010, 9th in 2011 and then picks up the winners crown again this year!
Once again we cannot thank our sponsors Milo & Milo's Simon Willsmore for sponsoring the event and providing amazing prizes for the top ten, Milo are one of our longest standing festival sponsors and without their continued support we could not hold the event, so thank you to Milo and Simon.
I hope all the anglers that have fished this week have enjoyed the festival apart from the shocking weather – but at least it has been dry & warm in the bar! Thank you to all the anglers that have fished this week for making it such a great success and thank you also to those that have been following the festival reports.
Congratulations to all the anglers that took park (especially for braving the weather) and special congratulations to the 2012 White Acres Milo champion Darren Cox and runners up Adam Wakelin & Martin Holmes.
Cheers, Kirsty
