Today I had a choice of fishing for water pigs at Coppice lane or a trip to Wheaton Aston for some proper fishing, I didn't fancy the carp so it was going to a few hours on the cut. Number 3 son picked me up about 9;45am and away we went with just the basic kit, box for the lad to sit on, whip, keep net, landing net and a fold up chair for me. I was going to catch a few or look like Nobby the gnome!
Parking up the canal looked in great nick and I just couldn't wait to get at it. The 3.5 metre whip was flicked out and a rig attached, GB was mixed (50/50 Supercup and brown crumb) and left to absorb the water. putting a pinkie on the hook I flick the rig under arm for the first run through and bugger all happened
Try again but this time throwing 4 or 5 pinkies in first, the float settles and disappears Gudgeon number one goes in the net It was a fish a chuck for the next 20 minutes then the 1st barge of the day chugs through
After throwing in a small ball of GB in the Roach put in an appearance then barge number 2 shows up :( more GB and loose feed and its back to the Gudgeon, with the odd Perch and Skimmer, after three and a half hours of pure magic I started to get cold, so we called time on it and went to the pub for a nice hot coffee.
All in all it was a good days fishing that ended with a bag of about 7 lb of bit with a few bonus fish.
Sorry its not a very good photo but I only had my phone with me
The hi-lite of the day was this fellow

A day on the whip.
nice catch, would be interesting to know what it weighed as the british record is only 5oz isnt it?
A day on the whip.
I had a munster - the biggest I'd ever seen a couple of years ago - further up the Shroppie nr Cowley
I wondered whether I might have had a potential record on my hands
HaHa even rang his better half up to find out what the record stood at for me
Now if it had been a perch of the same size it would have gone 6oz plus easy.........
Must have been hollow, weighed it seperate at the all out - not even sure if it went 3oz, but it was nowhere near 5oz :(
