chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, has revealed the club recently held a "good discussion" with Robin van Persie regarding his future at Emirates Stadium.

Van Persie is nearing the final year of his Arsenal contract and is yet to indicate if he will renew terms with the Gunners. Having picked up the PFA Footballer of the Year award in England the Dutchman is hot property, courted by several major clubs around Europe.

Arsenal's prized asset is particularly admired by Roberto Mancini at Manchester City and has also attracted interest from Juventus. His reputation will grow further if he enjoys an impressive Euro 2012 campaign.

However, Gazidis revealed on Arsenal's official website that he has sat down with Van Persie to discuss his future. An agreement has been reached for neither party to talk about the details of those conversations, but the Arsenal CEO was positive about the outcome.

"Robin sat down with us at the end of the season and we had a good discussion," Gazidis said. "What we agreed at that meeting was that we would keep all the discussions we had over the summer to ourselves and make announcements when it is the right time.

"We have to respect the fact we have agreed to keep that among ourselves.

"Robin is clearly focused on the Euros at the moment and we wish him well, and at the right time we will make the right announcements. But at the moment we are not saying anything."

Joff , Van Persie made it clear he wanted to join City last Christmas if the money was right ;)

However we have four top class strikers at City and unless Dzeko is sold or Tevez,s agent kicks off again Van Persie wont be heading to Manchester ;) rumour is Real Madrid are favourites to sign him but nothing will happen until after the euro,s Image Image

Former Arsenal star Sol Campbell understands how Gunners captain Robin van Persie has lost patience with the club.

Campbell, who was a key part of Arsenal's 'Invincibles' side in 2003/04, believes the Dutchman, who has announced he will not sign a new deal at the Emirates, has become disillusioned with the club's lack of competitiveness for top trophies.

"I can understand why Van Persie has decided not to sign a new contract," the former England defender told the Daily Mirror.

"When you go back to your club for pre-season, and you look around the changing room, you want to see top players around you and think, 'Yeah, we're going to do something this season. This is where it's happening'.

"That's what van Persie is looking for. And maybe he's had a look and thought, 'Is this it?'

"Robin has seen the good times, and been part of the good times, and he wants more of it. Basically, his statement is shorthand for saying his patience has run out, and that he can't wait for ever if he's going to win major trophies in his career.

"From the outside, it looks as though he wants to go to a club who will start the season expecting to win things, not just to be in contention with a lot of ifs, buts, maybes and strings attached."

Campbell believes reconciliation is not impossible, but thinks Arsenal would have to make some serious statements in the transfer market.

"Maybe he could still sign a new contract if Arsenal rustle up £100m from somewhere and make a serious statement by signing three world-class players," he said.

"But they lost Fabregas and Nasri last summer, so we've been here before and I don't see how it's going to be any different this time."

Bit of news on this one ;)

Not a clear cut transfer deal by any means , quite large numbers of City fans are opposed to Van Persie joining MCFC for a number of reasons and have made there feelings known to the club ....... Arsenal are also holding out for big money , in excess of £20 million for a near 30 year old player who can leave for free next season.......

be interesting how it all pans out Image Image ;)

Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed Manchester United have hit a brick wall in their attempts to sign Robin van Persie from Arsenal.

Ferguson revealed on United's recent tour of South Africa United had made a bid for last season's Premier League Golden Boot winner. The Red Devils interest seems to have fended off competition from Manchester City and Juventus.

However, Arsene Wenger has never sold a player to United. And, from Ferguson's comments to reporters following the penalty shoot-out defeat to Barcelona in Gothenburg, it doesn't appear he wants to start now. "We have made a bid and they've been trying to negotiate with other clubs," said Ferguson.

"I don't have a gut feeling on it at the moment, I must admit. We're not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal. It's difficult to say why they're operating this way. I don't know what their thoughts are because they're not giving anything away."

There had been rumours circulating prior to Wednesday night's game that Van Persie was heading to Manchester for a medical. It seems they were wide of the mark.

"I can't give you any more information," said Ferguson. "We just have to persevere. We are trying our best and hopefully it will come our way but there's no progress at this moment in time."

It was the second transfer blow of the day for United, who discovered prior to kick-off that Brazilian midfielder Lucas Moura had joined cash-rich Paris St-Germain. Ferguson was keen to sign the teenage midfielder from Sao Paulo and remained in Manchester at the weekend when his team headed to Norway "to do some business".

The clearest indication Moura was looking elsewhere was that Ferguson jetted out of Manchester prior to Brazil's Olympic semi-final win over South Korea on Tuesday night, when the midfielder was an unused substitute. It seems United simply could not compete with PSG's Qatari-backed spending power.

Following the huge purchases of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva, Ferguson stated the world had 'gone mad' saying: "I find it quite amazing that a club can pay 45million euros for a 19-year-old boy," said the Scot. "To tell everyone that PSG are here they've signed Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. They must have spent about £150m in the last month.

"The only deterrent to that is UEFA. In the conditions of European football, you don't qualify for Europe by winning the league or coming second - you only get in by invitation. That's where, hopefully, UEFA can have some power. When somebody's paying £45m for a 19-year-old boy you have to say the game's gone mad."
