Spoke to Stu Naylor yesterday, he says you can fish them just as opens if you want. Might do a couple of these. reckon it will have been as long as Kingfisher since I fished a canal match ( apart from the Voorne Canal Joff!!)
To say I might need a practice would be an understatement though lolol

Cheers Joff. I'll be picking peoples brains tho.
Just a quick aside, a few of us have been going up Willesly the last few weeks, it's fishing brilliant, last week I won with 33lb of skimmers on the tip, small cage feeder and maggot, 4 other 20lb plus weights. Graham Barry has been going, loves it, Don went the other day.
Oh and if you know anyone who has got a spare few hundred grand, get them to buy it as it's up for sale in March and we've heard a strong rumour a southern carp syndicate want to buy it, so that will be the silver fish fishing over!! :( :( :(

Umm, Willersley lake. The carp fishing isn't that good. My mate did a few seasons on it. I think the biggest Carp goes around 30lb. So if a syndicate was to buy it i would guess they would have to put some stock in.
The Bream fishing was always good, but they took a liking to the Carp grub so they made you think. I always said i buy it if i won the Lottery and kick the Carp into touch and put it back to it's Bream days and make it more accessible peg wise. Best buy another ticket.
A nice venue.

It used to be a belting winter roach water back in the day. I remember Robin Banton and Jim Redfin having some superb nets of fish on the caster from the deep end. From memory there was a groundbait ban on there at that time - which didn't help the bream prospects.

I used to fish Willesley quite a lot but not the matches.
brilliant for bream although yonks back they weren't all that big.
If I remember right they put a claim in years ago for a record crucian, it was quite a bit above the then current record. It was thrown out amidst a hail of controversy

Jim Redfin. Now there's a name iv'e not heard in a long time. Good angler, very tidy IIRC. Fished against him in Ashby AC matches. Showing my age now.
Ronnie Wildig, another Willersey leg end. Used to cast miles to the middle of the field side and catch more than his fair share.
Cut my angling teeth at Willersey. Fond memories.
Leicestershire and South Derbyshire Angling Society........I think.
Sorry to hijack the thread.

Andy,
Have any of you fished the method / pellet/meat/cat food/corn ? I used to fish it in the winter / spring odd times on Richard Wood's matches. I know he has been poorly the last few years and could not run the matches anymore plus it was a bit of a problem with the carpers !
Anyway after Pete Jupp put me right I started using these baits and could not believe it ! The old gentle bream bite was a thing of the past !
You will have to let me know when you are going again mate.

used to fish Catmeat on the old winter league which Richard ran on there, like you said, really savage bites, I used to fish 0.16 when the rest fished 0.10 and maggot. method still catches, so does corn.
I'd love to be able to buy it cos i reckon you could sit down with the carp anglers and work something out so it worked for everyone. there's 70 odd pegs so there must be room for everyone, just a bit of good old communication!
I'm going on sunday ( if it's not froze!! :() and I'm going on tuesday with Graham and Don

As far as I know it's going up for sale in March. The bloke who owns it ( who lives in Hong Kong now I believe) bought it off a mate of Graham Barry.
I believe they want around 800K, but I wouldn't have thought it was worth that and that it would go for considerably less than that, especially when you consider Makins only sold for 800K.
