Ice breakers
I use a weight off a set of weighing scales that they use to weigh potatoes, to that i attach a 6 foot piece of chain then tie that to a rope.
Throw it in then when you pull it back you can saw through the ice.
Just make sure Swampy aint got it wrapped around his leg...(remember Norbury Swampy?)

Ropa before anyone else tells you. you want a big fat brummie and a rive box jump into the middle of the canal followed by the box, no need for the rope or chain, clears the ice wonderful but leaves you looking like a bit of an idiot especially when you look down to find your c@ck has dissapeared cos the water temperature is so low.

for ice that aint to thick a plastic milk bottle, fill it with water and just pull gently through the ice...imo it doesnt disturb the bottom .works for me. for thick ice i turn straight round and head for Duddeston by the blues ground never freezes and when cold fishes its nuts of....
Ice breakers
sorted , cheers lads , got me new pink joggers from primark, and raring to smash some ice
Ice breakers
..imo it doesnt disturb the bottom .
Given the clanging and banging that's gone on in breaking the ice isn't it possible that the fact that the bottom has been disturbed is a major contribution as to why anglers get bites instantly once the match starts
Ice breakers
One of the guys in my team had a super idea a few years back and replaced the length of chain with a length of chain saw cable and saw through the ice with that. The concept was brilliant but when he chucked it in the saw blade tied itself in a massive knot and it didn't work. So stick with the tried and tested weight/chain/rope combination.

I like to throw it in about 10 times more than i need to.
1. Its put that bit of extra colour in.
2. I like to pull any bags, branches and any other crap out the peg.
