The Cannock Extension
The Cannock Extension
The other day, I took advantage of being top side of bham to spend a couple of hours on the Extension.
(I owe you a quid TK )
I didnt catch a lot, just nine small fish, but i am so glad I went.
Those of you who know this canal are likely to have seen all this before, but to me it was a revelation.
In one section it was as clear as I tap water... which meant I could see an awfull lot .
At one point I could see a crisp packet on the bottom smack down the middle of the track. Not that I wanted to see a crisp packet, but you know what I mean
Rather than fish straight off, I went straight back to the car for some pinkies, liquidised bread and a cupping kit. Spent half an hour feeding fish and watching what went on.
Walking along I saw tincas sitting down the track, pike a plenty and of course the small fish.
All seen before by some of you I guess , but absolutely stunning to me.
I will never forget what I saw.

Tell you what though Simps,
Sitting there with the water so clear, watching your bait sink down etc
it all seemed slightly ridiculous, fishing I mean.
Never seems that way to me normally, when you cant see whats going on beneath the surface.

What section was it on Mark?
The Cannock Extension
It was the top end Josh, by the boats, past the new road bridge.
It was quite clear before the road bridge but nowhere near as much as past it.

Oooo yeah was like when I went down!
What was it like on the section before the bridge and down back towards the W&E?

The Cannock Extension
Not quite as clear, as I said, but I didnt look much further back than the gap in the fence entrance, just before the bridge

So I heard on Sat Blues4eva - even though I was a couple of hundred miles away Those tom tom drums were beating
Also heard of a decent bag falling to the humble big mag the same day off the peg I fished just past the reed bed by the 'broken bridge' when the cut was dead low a few weeks ago

I only fished for a couple of hours on the afternoon,
soon as I fed my peg within 5 minutes a barge came through and preety much wiped it out for an hour or so
caught some roach, perch and a skimmer in the last hour and half for a about 3lb
