first round of the sensas pairs
first round is always the worst round to organises as i wanted to collect the entry money before i ran the pools for the day.i must say it was a lot easier than i thought, the only down side was one pair of anglers let me down [messrs]
conditions looked great slight winds over cast pretty mild it looked as if we were in for a good match .that was until a pike anglers that had walked the whole canal and didn't catch one said "i don't fancy it for you lads with this low pressure and full moon i never thought about it but normally a full moon means lean times
with this in the back of my mind it changes my plan of attack when i arrived at ::)yes a bridge peg
and i mean right next to bridge i forgot we normally leave this out because in the past we have had trouble with kids chucking things at you ::)
still down the canal where i really wanted to be the 190s i could see scotty, roger andy beesley and with the sections being over 50 long anything can happen
i going to made thing simple that's my new years resolution think positive and dont set to many traps
i sat down looked at the options and set up the normal rigs but this time i'd doubled them up just in case of a tangle
my bait tray was ready and looked similar to some one else's
bicko's
mine
above the bridge stu naylor had drawn the old chub peg ::) ::)well they caught them once
stu's a great canal angler and from the put in he was catching roach and quite a nice stamp for me i was catching but they were very small
I've heard the old saying your on what your on ,but it doesn't stop you try get the better stampers a few odd better fish came late but i was simple miles behind Stu.
to my right it was a different story where i expected them to catch it didn't happen
i ended up with 5lb 6oz and in fairness if i hadn't kept looking for a bonus perch i might of had a like more still it was good enough for 5th in the section
stu naylor had a lovely net of fish for 11lb14oz and second on the day
and thats not the best part two the results will be up later as i've left them at home
but its worth waiting for ain't it danny

i really enjoyed running this one i had NO MOANS yes NO MOANS and no phone calls and some of the old faces were back
Danny ashington made the long trip from brum to fill in for one of the anglers partners as did Matt Derry [thanks lads ]Danny didn't disappoint his partner and romped the match with 12lb5oz from h/plant hire section mind you his partner didn't do too bad as he was second Stu naylor 11lb 14oz to win the pairs with a 100% score of two which i might add is a brilliant result concerning the competition stretches over a 100 pegs in 3rd place went to tony barker [the lobby king ] with three decent specimens and some late roach 10lb 14oz 4th place and last in the money was steve woolhard ,steve had drawn the other end of the match length and caught roach steady throughout the match for 7lb 10oz
section winner
1 dave petch 3lb14oz
2 barry jones 4lb2oz
3 joff woodgett 5lb 6oz
4 rob wootton 6lb 11oz
5 aaron wells 5lb

first round of the sensas pairs
Joff
just seen the results in the AM as a 49 pegger, i am gutted this was not a 50 peg match as this would have got me to 20 Kamo points i respect yours and Tonys honesty as proper match organisers . As opposed to many others around the country who bend the rules to allocate points

looking back over the results one or two pairs had really good draws ,the way i did the draw was to have two buckets A section B section and each pair took one out of each.
is this the best way of doing the draw for this type of match,or should i now make a list of those who fished A section should now fish B section or is that OTT

Personally I'd suspect you might get a few moans Joffie if you hadnt stipulated section rotation between anglers 'up front' and before the first match.
Having said that I 'like' the idea, perhaps include the concept in next years pairs event?

I dont think you could have done it any fairer mate.
Me and Darren /Tony and Andy were the last 2 pairs to draw
and look where it put us .All the pegs were there to be drawn. We as a pair were going to alternate anyway being anglers of similar ability it doesnt really matter.
We had a good draw on the day like you said along with a few others but your always going to get that anyway. You
Probably could have stipulated it at the start of the draw
but most anglers are capable of catching from any peg , especially the standard in this league. Its just nice to get one over a few of them being a lesser canal angler than some of those on show .I would have done a lot better as i ran out of bloody joker and should have come 4th on the day really.my own fault as i only took 1/4 of a kilo ,but the way ive been drawing this season thats all i would have needed.Im sure there will be a few twists and turns before the end of the series.Lets hope we are still in the top 4 at the end,but dont hold your breath.

its remarkable how it fished as the areas that fished in the last match couldn't buy a bite i do think full moons have a real effect on canals especially when they are so clear like it was on sunday. i had a pretty new bike in my peg just below the steam bridge you could almost read the makers name :-/mindyou i fancied a perch or two from around it must of been too fresh
its just a thought thats all we are changing each round as well
and like you said its great to see the anglers back out in numbers in fact its made quite a difference with very little moans
i feel now that a teams of four throughout the summer could be on river and canal
