We effectively 'rake' the peg on ice breakers.............and often catch 'fust put in'


When I used to have a decent pair of lungs - and by god you needed 'em - in the depths of winter way back in the 80s on a gin clear canal on a grueller I've blown down the pole to disturb a bit of silt and add a bit of colour


But has anybody raked their peg before though on a match?


Is it actually permissable under NFA rules?

One thing that I used to do on tough canal matches was put on the biggest plummet I'd got and drag it around a bit - micro raking I suppose. It used to win a few extra bites. Ref raking, I well remember a match on an iced over canal where I'd drawn a clear bit. Great? Not a bit of it, the wind was keeping it ice free and obviously chilling the water more than the bits that were insulated under the ice. So, it was in with the ice breaker anyway, to stir things up and put some colour in. It was still a struggle though.

that looks like a jeff flewit rake if i remember right the local paper carried a story about garden rakes going missing  from allotments and garden sheds

One of the Nationals I fished with Drakelow was on the Royal Military canal, darn sarf, and because of the state of the weed, we were allowed to cut/rake the weed out.
They had employed a barge to go along a couple of days before the match with a weed cutter attached, but apparently he set the cutter at about a foot deep, and everything below that was left undisturbed
