yesterday i was at the the last angling times final ever brilliant venue and brilliant fishing with all aspects of angling on show.if we had done this a few years ago i'm sure the competition would of survived report and photo's i hope will be coming later
now i hear teams are dropping out of the national fish off on newark dyke so far i've been told 3 out of the top 10 have dropped out and the angling trust are on about the 20th spot in the national if this is true you might as well kiss team fishing down the pan

i think the main reason for team fishing goin downhill is ther dosent seem to be much incentive for the bread and butterteams who would if there bein totally honest see the fish off as a expensive thing to be involved with and very good chance of no return for there cash.if team fishin has got any future we need to all sit round and say what we want bearing in mind without the bread and butter teams there wouldnt be any nationals etc . taking nothing against the super teams but you have gota keep the majority happy or itl be gone. p.s im no my gramer is crap but i think ul all get the jist of things

If you all remember I did write on a thread about this topic over 18 months ago when the new structure was put in place did say give it 2 years then it would have to change as it is all geared towards the top teams and is very offputting to other teams with much less experience at the type of fishing involved in the fish off.
My views are coming from someone who fishes for 1 of the top teams and I can see this ain't good for the future of team fishing

danny i do remember that personally if the angling trust ask the next 15 to twenty teams if they would fish it i can't see them doing it at this stage again this info is far too late i'd love to fish it but even i'd be struggling this time and for your lads its just non stop fishing national, evesham, world champs and now the fish off add that up against the money you have pulled back in winning and i would think its cost a fortune the same for dorking and barnsley
you can't expect any other teams to have the man power or the finance [perhaps shakespeare]
this week I've just had a phone call about the winter league well a meeting next Monday that's a week before it should start
i suggested he asked every team captain to bring some suggestions with them rather fight it out on the night and i simply said how many teams have we got the answer was you are the first
i suggested we should have 5 sections on the river and 5 on the canal his answer to that was you and trentmen would yellow stream it i said perhaps we would but the other teams wouldn't want to go any further in the competition so is that such a bad thing at least the anglers in the area have 6 big matches to fish i still don't think he got it
you don't win anthing for 1st place in the winter league just a ticket to the semi final it just happens a lot of teams don't want to take it any further ;)where as us and trentmen would like to
so for the first time we might have a league

You appear to be talking your team up a bit Joff ! Your last 2 years results have been 4th and 3rd ! Wot about the mighty Q and Wigston !!
Should be a tight league this year, could Leicester come good or will 3rd place be a good result !!!!!!
What's the matter with the river buy the way ? Surely you don't need to fish the canal with the great fishing on the rivers to be had, just my opinion !!!

blur blur blur
choppy its not the river its the walks mate i'm only one voice on here but believe me thats the biggest problem of all
sutton deeps and greens access is brilliant now you can park both ends of the deeps greens is a small walk and sutton a easy walk with no styles
everyone takes too much stuff nower days but you can't tell them
all i'm saying is give the angler the choice as they have got throw a £100 at it
another point would your mighty Q and wigston put the time in or want to fish a semi or final it seams to me that teams love the league whether its run by a sponsor or not but when it comes to another venue most don't want to know
you only have to look at this years final where only 10 team fished it and take alook at the fish off 3 or 4 teams have dropped out ,we'd fish it but then we would have the same problem if we were lucky enough to win none of the lads would be able to go to the european final barnsley ,dorking and starlets are without dought our best chance of ever winning the club world championships fact
spoke to sam yesterday barnsley have really got the bit between the teeth on this one and are putting in the required practice sat, sun, mon, tues, wed, thurs thats brilliant and probably dorking, starlets will do the same and fairplay thats the way to do it but what about the otherteam that can't

Joff,
Yes you are the only voice !
Did you know that the mighty Q, Wigston and Long Eaton would prefer to be on the river, Trentmen will not mind either way and there's your lot !
That puts Leicester in a minority would you not think.
It is slightly unfair to suggest that the winners and runners up (Talking about Q and Wig. here) would not put the time in, it would be up to them what they did, after all if you win your league then you are the best team in that league, simples !!!
The walks are ok on the rivers in the sections the soar valley use. Nobody talks a walk up !!!!!!
I fish rivers all over the country and mature blokes still do the walks because they know on certain venues it goes with the territory. This week for example sat Barford winter league, 60 sell out and upper Thames Champs sun 100 plus, both good walks !!!!
As for Leicester being lucky enough to win a National fish off, maybe walk before running Joff.
I know most of the Leicester lads would prefer the canal but after a good performance at Evesham I would have thought it might spur a few on to have a crack at the river.
As for the world club champs, well who cares that we have not won it since 1982, certainly not the majority of anglers I know !
That fish off is the worst thing ever to be thought up and will do nothing for team fishing.
The winners of the National should go end of, a chance of a lifetime for most anglers who will never fish for their country. To turn it into what is now was one of the most short sighted decisions ever made !!
A chance of sponsorship should have gone into a format similar to the Captain Morgan cup so as to re-unite club fishing and open fishing.
Never only cater for the elite as that is all you will have left.
As for the winter league changes, well I cannot get my breath, what a load of tosh !!

how about all the money that prestons kindly sponsor the fish off winners goes to the top ten teams in national instead bet that would generate some more interest

yes i can see your point mate and good points as well for some reason you think its our choice to go on the canal it's not. at the end of the day we all want a league and the whole idea is to make it as attractive to others as possible
evesham was good and i understand why 60,70 anglers fish there week in week out a lot to do with it is the parking behind your peg
when i ran the winter league on several times i got a good blisting from good anglers i might add about the walks and i'm sure on of them still won the section
angling on natural venues has to become attractive to get move anglers to fish them and i'm afraid the river soar is one of them

a good idea motty but i think the winners of the national should have it out right as it might be the only way a lesser team could go [i don't think lesser is the right word]

think wev gota try and share the wealth about not just look after one team ,the way things are people are leaning more towards events that have money spread about and even the maver match this thing is on about spreading money about . surely if everyone gets together and vsays what they want shouldnt be any moaning

Possibly a meeting with Angling Trust and one rep from every team that has an interest in Winter League fishing.
This could be regional from both parties to save travel expenses.
The data could then be collated and see what new or even 'old' ideas come forward or, for that matter, it is even worth the effort.
Personally, I think to make it more 'open' a Winter League should have the final in the winter, maybe March, maybe the Old Nene would be a reasonable choice at that time of the year? Just a suggestion, - the calendar in September is well cluttered normally with other finals and Internationals.
I say one rep from a team because of availability. If a team has nobody turn up they are possibly not bothered.
I can't see it getting anywhere without any sort of dialogue with Angling Trust and the teams.
Just a few thoughts.............................

I agree September is a nightmare and it was reason I suggested to NFA not to reduce squad sizes as at that time of year there is a need to compete on so many fronts. A
March final would be a very good idea - perhaps take the semis out altogether and have an all winners of leagues match?

joffie, lloydy is a good mate and i was only pulling his leg...i am just as passionate about team fishing as you pair but i do think we need to get our heads together and sort a way forward for team fishing in general not just the w/league. if the trust are willing to listen to us the least we can do is be constructive instead of sticking our heads up our jacksies and hoping it will get better.....coz we all know it won't if we don't do anything to make us a more professional as a sport in order to attract sponsorship and such like......
i could go on and on but i will save it for when i fancy a proper rant
